Mirae Asset Securities is strengthening its global brokerage network by partnering with a leading Singapore-based securities firm to make it easier for overseas investors to access the South Korean stock market.
The company announced on June 8 that it has signed an agreement with Singapore brokerage firm UOB Kay Hian to provide omnibus account services for foreign investors, enabling a more streamlined investment process for clients seeking exposure to Korean equities.
The initiative was led by Mirae Asset Securities' Singapore subsidiary and is expected to improve market accessibility for investors across Singapore and the broader Southeast Asian region.
Under the omnibus account structure, overseas investors can trade Korean stocks through their local brokerage without opening individual accounts in South Korea. The arrangement simplifies administrative procedures and allows foreign investors to access the Korean market more efficiently through a single integrated account managed by their home brokerage.
Industry observers view the move as part of a broader effort to attract international capital to South Korea, particularly as global interest in Korean technology, semiconductor, and AI-related companies continues to rise.
UOB Kay Hian is one of Singapore's largest brokerage firms and a subsidiary of UOB-Kay Hian Holdings Limited, which is listed on the Singapore Exchange. With a market capitalization of approximately SGD 4 billion and a business history spanning more than a century, the firm has established a strong presence across Southeast Asia and Greater China through its brokerage and wealth management operations.
Mirae Asset Securities said the partnership is part of a broader strategy to enhance foreign investors' access to the Korean capital market. The company is currently pursuing similar collaborations with additional overseas financial institutions as it seeks to expand its international trading infrastructure.
The agreement comes amid a period of accelerated global expansion for Mirae Asset Securities. The company is preparing to launch a mobile trading system in Hong Kong and is also pursuing acquisitions in the United States as part of its efforts to strengthen its overseas business footprint.
A company official said Mirae Asset Securities will continue expanding partnerships with global financial institutions to improve accessibility to Korean equities and provide a more seamless investment environment through its international network and digital platforms.
Market analysts believe that strengthening connections with major regional brokerages could help channel more Southeast Asian investment into South Korea, supporting the internationalization of the country's capital markets while enhancing Mirae Asset Securities' position as a global investment platform provider.
