Nongshim brought its flagship Shin Ramyun brand to one of the Middle East’s largest pop culture events, stepping up efforts to connect with younger consumers through entertainment and experiential marketing.
The South Korean food company said on Sept. 14 that it operated a Shin Ramyun-themed booth and food truck at the Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC), widely known as UAE Comic Con, held from Sept. 11 to 13 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the United Arab Emirates.
UAE Comic Con brings together fans of movies, television, animation, comics, gaming and cosplay, drawing more than 45,000 visitors. Its strong following among younger audiences has also made the event an increasingly attractive venue for global consumer brands seeking to engage Gen Z customers.
From Gamescom to UAE Comic Con
Nongshim designed its booth around direct interaction with the Shin Ramyun brand rather than conventional product displays.
The space featured a photo zone, merchandise shop and 360-degree camera area, while a wall displaying a range of Shin Ramyun products was designed as a social media-friendly photo spot. Limited-edition merchandise, including Shin Ramyun keyrings and stickers, was also offered to visitors.
Outside the exhibition hall, Nongshim operated a food truck inspired by Korean bunsik, or casual street food culture, where visitors could sample Shin Ramyun. A giant Shin Ramyun cup installation served as another visual centerpiece of the tasting area.
The Abu Dhabi event follows Nongshim’s participation in Gamescom in Germany last month. The two appearances show how the company is increasingly placing Shin Ramyun alongside gaming, entertainment and other cultural experiences popular with younger consumers.
The UAE event also reflects Nongshim’s growing focus on the Middle East. Rather than relying solely on retail distribution, the company is giving local consumers opportunities to experience the taste and identity of Shin Ramyun in settings associated with global youth culture.
Retail Push to Follow in October
Nongshim plans to extend the campaign beyond the festival. In October, the company will introduce special Shin Ramyun-branded displays at major retailers in the Middle East.
The approach links brand exposure at a major pop culture event with the point of purchase, potentially helping convert consumer interest into retail demand.
Nongshim said it plans to continue expanding locally tailored marketing activities as it seeks closer engagement with consumers in the Middle East and other global markets.
“Following the strong response at Comic Con, we plan to introduce special Shin Ramyun-themed displays at major retailers in the Middle East in October,” a Nongshim official said. “We will continue to expand consumer touchpoints in the Middle East and other global markets through locally tailored marketing activities.”
