LG Electronics (LG) will introduce its next-generation smart telematics solution at MWC Barcelona 2026, the world’s largest mobile connectivity event, scheduled for March 2–5 in Barcelona, Spain. The new system integrates a telematics control unit (TCU) and antenna into a single module, marking a major step forward in in-vehicle connectivity technology.

The showcase comes as the automotive industry shifts from software-defined vehicles (SDVs) to AI-defined vehicles (AIDVs), with in-vehicle communications increasingly seen as a key competitive differentiator. As autonomous driving technologies and in-vehicle infotainment systems continue to evolve, LG aims to expand strategic partnerships with global automakers and telecom operators seeking advanced connectivity solutions.

At MWC Barcelona 2026, LG will operate a private exhibition space dedicated to automakers and B2B clients. The company plans to demonstrate its advanced vehicle communication technologies and explore new collaboration opportunities, reinforcing its role as a key partner in the connected mobility ecosystem.

LG will also highlight its leadership in the global telematics sector. According to estimates based on data from independent research firm TechInsights, LG ranked first in the global telematics market in 2025 with a 23 percent share. The company attributes its success to comprehensive in-house design capabilities covering network access devices, antennas and overall system architecture.

LG’s latest telematics solution combines a multi-band antenna capable of receiving 5G, GPS, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and satellite signals with a TCU that processes and distributes the data within the vehicle. Integrating these components into a single module improves system efficiency and reduces complexity.

Developed and optimized internally, the module features a compact design, advanced signal-processing algorithms and enhanced software performance. By consolidating components previously installed separately, the system reduces signal loss and enables stable, high-speed data transmission between external networks and in-vehicle IT devices. It also complies with leading international cybersecurity and regulatory standards.

The simplified architecture reduces wiring requirements and enhances vehicle assembly efficiency. Eliminating the conventional shark-fin antenna design allows automakers to achieve cleaner and more streamlined vehicle exteriors.

LG continues to expand its presence in automotive communications through technological innovation and partnerships. The company previously collaborated with Saint-Gobain Sekurit to introduce transparent, film-type antennas that can be applied on or within vehicle glass without affecting design aesthetics.

In addition, LG is strengthening its in-vehicle software portfolio through LG AlphaWare, a suite designed to support the transition from SDVs to AIDVs. AlphaWare includes PlayWare for premium in-car entertainment, MetaWare for augmented and mixed reality experiences enhanced by AI, and VisionWare, which integrates ADAS, AI algorithms and camera sensors to monitor driver and passenger behavior for improved safety. LG was also the first to deploy its Automotive Content Platform (ACP) in commercial electric vehicles.

“In-vehicle connectivity has become a central pillar of mobility competitiveness,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company. “Leveraging our global telematics leadership, LG will continue delivering innovative solutions that move beyond the SDV framework and drive the industry toward the AIDV era.”
