LG Uplus said CEO Hong Beom-sik met with Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Matt Garman on Oct. 29 at the 2025 APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju to discuss deeper cooperation between the two companies.

The meeting, held at Lae Seong Musicale in Gyeongju, was attended by both CEOs and senior executives. It aimed to accelerate AI- and cloud-based innovation as those technologies become central to corporate competitiveness.

LG Uplus and AWS formed a strategic partnership earlier this year at MWC25 in Barcelona and have since been collaborating to support AI transformation (AX) and digital transformation (DX) for Korean companies. The partners said they will pursue joint cloud business opportunities, strengthen AI development capabilities using AWS’s generative AI service Amazon Bedrock, enhance cloud-based security, and modernize IT to improve customer experience (CX).

Since the partnership, LG Uplus has been building staged capabilities to reach global cloud service provider (CSP) operational standards, adopt a zero-trust security model, and reinforce infrastructure to become the country’s most secure telecom operator. In July, LG Uplus listed its small language model (sLLM) “ixi‑GEN” on the Amazon Bedrock Marketplace, enabling global companies and developers to build and scale AI services on AWS using the model.

LG Uplus said the APEC meeting will help accelerate joint efforts to boost service competitiveness through AI–cloud convergence.

Separately, LG Uplus deployed additional communications equipment around Gyeongju to ensure reliable connectivity during the APEC summit. The company installed extra 5G and LTE units at key locations, set up temporary systems in the media center to eliminate dead zones, and operated round‑the‑clock monitoring and a local control room to enable rapid emergency response.
