LS ELECTRIC is accelerating efforts to secure next-generation power infrastructure technologies by partnering with global power semiconductor leader Infineon Technologies. As demand for electricity rises rapidly due to the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and renewable energy systems, the two companies aim to develop advanced direct current (DC) power solutions and strengthen their presence in the global market.

LS ELECTRIC announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Infineon Technologies for cooperation on the development of AI data center and DC power technologies at its R&D Campus in Anyang, South Korea.

The partnership is designed to address growing electricity demand driven by AI infrastructure expansion and the increasing adoption of renewable energy and energy storage systems. Through joint technology development, the companies aim to establish a competitive next-generation DC power ecosystem with improved efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Under the agreement, LS ELECTRIC and Infineon will collaborate on developing key semiconductor-based DC power technologies, including power conversion systems (PCS) for energy storage systems (ESS), solid-state transformers (SST), and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCB).

DC power technology is gaining attention as a critical solution for high-density power environments such as AI data centers. Compared with traditional alternating current (AC)-based systems, DC architectures can reduce energy conversion losses by minimizing the number of power conversion stages, improving overall system efficiency.

The technology is expected to play an increasingly important role as data centers require greater amounts of stable and efficient power to support advanced AI computing. By enhancing power conversion efficiency and operational reliability, next-generation DC infrastructure can help companies manage rising energy costs while supporting sustainable growth.

LS ELECTRIC will leverage its extensive expertise in power systems, industrial automation, system integration, and infrastructure deployment to lead commercialization efforts. The company plans to develop customized solutions optimized for various industrial and energy environments.

Infineon will contribute its advanced power semiconductor technologies and power control expertise to support the development of highly efficient and reliable DC power systems. By combining LS ELECTRIC’s system integration capabilities with Infineon’s semiconductor technologies, the companies aim to accelerate the commercialization of future power infrastructure solutions.

The partnership comes amid rapid changes in the global energy landscape. The expansion of AI services, growth of high-performance computing, and increasing integration of renewable energy sources are creating more complex and distributed power networks. As a result, technologies that improve energy efficiency and grid stability are becoming increasingly important.

Industry observers expect the collaboration to create new opportunities across various sectors, including AI data centers, smart factories, renewable energy facilities, and large-scale energy storage projects. Semiconductor-based DC power solutions could help reduce energy losses, improve operational efficiency, and support companies’ sustainability initiatives.

The development of advanced DC power infrastructure is also expected to contribute to carbon reduction efforts by improving energy utilization efficiency. As global companies continue to pursue environmental and energy management goals, demand for high-efficiency power solutions is projected to increase.

Through this partnership, LS ELECTRIC aims to strengthen its position as a comprehensive energy solution provider beyond traditional power equipment manufacturing. The company plans to expand its global business by delivering integrated power solutions tailored to the needs of the AI era and future energy markets.

An LS ELECTRIC representative said, “The importance of high-efficiency DC power technology is growing rapidly as AI data centers and next-generation power grids expand. By combining our system capabilities with Infineon’s world-class power semiconductor technology, we will strengthen our competitiveness in next-generation DC infrastructure and pursue leadership in global markets.”
