The Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) announced that it has donated 30 educational computers to a youth school in the Philippines as part of a joint social contribution initiative with the National Railroad Workers’ Union.

The donation was carried out through the Hope Railroad Foundation, a charitable organization jointly funded by Korail and the railway labor union. The project forms part of the foundation’s ongoing private-sector exchange and community support activities in the Philippines.

On May 19, representatives from the foundation visited Ipil-lan Barrio School in Cavite, located on the outskirts of Manila, and officially delivered 30 computers for educational use. The ceremony was attended by approximately 100 participants, including Philippine government officials, parents, teachers, and students.

Cipriano Dinglasan, principal of Ipil-lan Barrio School, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the donation would help students acquire essential digital skills and broaden their learning opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The initiative reflects Korail’s broader commitment to international cooperation and community engagement in countries where the company is involved in railway operations.

Since last year, Korail has deployed 28 employees to the Philippines to support the operation and maintenance (O&M) of Metro Manila Subway Line 7, contributing its railway expertise to the country’s transportation infrastructure development.

Park Hwa-young, Head of Human Resources Management at Korail and a director of the Hope Railroad Foundation, said the donation demonstrates the power of cooperation between management and labor in creating positive social impact.

“By working together, Korail and the railway union are helping improve digital learning environments for young people in the Philippines,” Park said. “We will continue to support international community projects while enhancing the global reputation and competitiveness of Korea’s railway industry.”

The computer donation marks another step in Korail’s efforts to combine overseas railway operations with meaningful social contribution activities, fostering stronger ties between Korea and local communities abroad.
