Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced that it will take part in the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX), held from December 1 to 4 (local time), significantly strengthening its marketing activities targeting Africa and the Middle East defense markets.
Now in its fourth edition since launching in 2018, EDEX is the largest defense exhibition in the region, attracting high-ranking government and military officials as well as major defense firms from Africa and the Middle East. KAI will showcase a wide range of fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms, including the KF-21, FA-50, UCAV, AAP, MAH, and ALE, as it pushes to expand its regional market presence.
A major attraction at the booth will be KAI’s digital showroom and its AI-based virtual pilot system “KAILOT,” both of which drew significant interest at Seoul ADEX. The company plans to actively promote its technological competitiveness in future aerospace capabilities.
KAI emphasized that the FA-50 shares strong compatibility with Egypt’s primary fighter, the F-16, making it highly advantageous for pilot transition and training. FA-50 performance was already showcased to Egyptian Air Force officials when the Republic of Korea Air Force’s Black Eagles aerobatic team performed advanced maneuvers over the Pyramids during the Pyramids Air Show in August 2022. KAI is highlighting the FA-50’s mission flexibility, high availability rates, and strong operational record demonstrated by current foreign operators.
The company is also strengthening its marketing push for rotary-wing aircraft, including the Surion and next-generation air combat systems. Key officials from Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Jordan and other nations are expected to visit KAI’s booth during the exhibition. KAI plans to emphasize the reliability and scalability of its weapons systems to explore new business opportunities in the region.
“If the FA-50 is selected for Egypt’s trainer program, it will establish a win-win industrial partnership with Egypt’s aviation sector,” said KAI CEO Cha Jae-byung.
