Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced the launch of its next-generation industrial processor lineup, the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ-X Series, on November 14. Designed for a wide range of industrial equipment, the Dragonwing IQ-X Series supports PLCs, advanced HMIs, edge controllers, panel PCs, box PCs, and other mission-critical devices. The processors feature a ruggedized design for stable operation in extreme environments and broad compatibility with peripheral devices, enabling seamless integration with industrial systems. They also deliver power-efficient performance and a variety of multimedia capabilities.

Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT at Qualcomm, said the Dragonwing IQ-X Series brings industry-leading single-thread and multi-thread performance powered by the Qualcomm Oryon CPU to industrial PCs, enabling more advanced smart factories and high-performance edge controllers. He added that the series will help OEMs and ODMs reduce system complexity, shorten time to market, and build competitive industrial solutions for years to come.

The Dragonwing IQ-X Series is engineered to meet the demanding requirements of industrial OEMs and ODMs, offering top-tier compute performance, long product lifecycles, enhanced security, stable connectivity, and exceptional power efficiency. At its core is Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU built on a 4-nanometer process, featuring scalable configurations of 8 to 12 high-performance cores and up to 45 TOPS of AI processing. The processors support an industrial temperature range of -40°C to 105°C, ensuring reliable operation even in harsh conditions.

Supporting industry-standard COM module form factors, the Dragonwing IQ-X Series can be dropped into existing carrier boards, simplifying upgrades and integration. Through evaluation kits, the platform enables scalable solutions for multiple industrial sectors. It ensures broad compatibility with standard hardware peripherals and bridge chips, offering customers a seamless and consistent design experience. In addition, the processors support widely used software, middleware, and development tools such as Qt, CODESYS, EtherCAT, and others, enhancing performance, flexibility, and integration for industrial applications running on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC.

Industrial solutions powered by the Dragonwing IQ-X platform will be able to leverage NPUs for AI applications through the Qualcomm AI Software Stack and common runtimes like ONNX and PyTorch. The IQ-X Series provides essential AI infrastructure for industrial automation, supporting predictive maintenance, condition-based monitoring, fault detection, and other key use cases. This foundation enables industrial partners to reliably deploy and manage large-scale intelligent edge systems based on the Dragonwing IQ-X platform.

Developed for fast customization and scalability, the Qualcomm IQ-X Series simplifies rugged system design, reduces reliance on external AI or multimedia modules, and lowers total bill of materials (BOM). With its flexible architecture and long-term supply stability, the platform allows OEMs and ODMs to efficiently build high-performance, tailored solutions for factory automation, robotics, intelligent edge systems, and more. Early adopters of the Qualcomm IQ-X Series include leading global OEMs such as Advantech, Congatec, Kontron, NEXCOM, Portwell, SECO, and Tria. Commercial devices equipped with the new processors are expected to be announced in the coming months.
