South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility has secured a major power plant project in Oman, strengthening its presence in the Middle East energy infrastructure market amid rising demand for stable electricity supplies across the region.

The company announced on June 15 that it signed a contract with a consortium led by Korea Western Power for the construction of the Duqm combined-cycle gas power plant in Oman. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 530 billion (about USD 390 million).

For the project, Doosan Enerbility will form a consortium with Chinese power engineering company SEPCO-3 to carry out engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on a turnkey basis. The company will also manufacture and supply key power generation equipment, including steam turbines and generators, with commercial operation targeted for 2029.

The 870MW power plant will be built in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, located about 550 kilometers south of Muscat, the capital of Oman. Upon completion, the facility is expected to help meet rising electricity demand in southern Oman and enhance the stability of the country's power supply.

The project owner consortium comprises Korea Western Power, Qatar-based Nebras Power, the UAE’s EUDC, and Oman’s Bahwan Infrastructure Services (BIS). EUDC is the development and investment subsidiary of Etihad Water and Electricity.

As Middle Eastern countries accelerate industrial diversification and economic zone development, demand for reliable power infrastructure continues to increase. Combined-cycle gas power plants are increasingly viewed as an essential energy source capable of ensuring grid stability while supporting the transition toward cleaner energy systems.

Doosan Enerbility has been expanding its footprint in the region by leveraging its EPC capabilities and extensive experience in supplying power generation equipment. The company has participated in numerous power projects across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other Middle Eastern markets.

“Leveraging our project execution experience and EPC capabilities accumulated in the Middle East, we were able to secure this project,” said Lee Hyun-ho, Head of Plant EPC BG at Doosan Enerbility. “As demand for power plant construction is expected to continue in Oman and across the Middle East, we will pursue additional opportunities through the successful execution of this project.”
