Plasma One, the digital banking application developed by blockchain infrastructure company Plasma, launched on Google Play on July 14, extending its services to Android users as the company accelerates its global expansion. Plasma is backed by Founders Fund, the venture capital firm co-founded by Peter Thiel.
The Android release comes only weeks after the app's initial launch on iOS and represents a strategic step toward broader consumer adoption. While many fintech applications debut on Apple's ecosystem because of its controlled environment and early-adopter user base, Android dominates the global smartphone market, particularly in regions where demand for digital dollar services continues to grow.
Android opens access to high-growth markets
Android accounts for roughly 70% of smartphones worldwide and reaches between 85% and 95% of users in several markets where digital dollar adoption is expanding rapidly. By launching on Google's mobile platform, Plasma is positioning its banking ecosystem for wider distribution across emerging markets.
The move reflects a broader industry trend in which blockchain-based financial services are increasingly targeting mass-market users rather than remaining focused on crypto-native communities.
Banking, payments and cross-border transfers
Plasma One combines digital banking, payments and blockchain settlement within a single application. Users can make purchases globally through a Plasma One Visa card using Google Pay, send unlimited cross-border transfers settled on the Plasma blockchain, and earn on-chain yield on idle balances held within the platform.
The company is offering three membership tiers—Lite, Core and Platinum. Depending on the subscription level, users can receive between 2% and 4% cashback on eligible purchases, while Platinum members are eligible for up to 10% cashback on qualifying AI-related spending and flights with participating airlines.
To encourage early adoption, users who download the Android application and register before July 18 will receive six months of the Core membership at no additional cost.
Expansion planned across emerging regions
Plasma said it plans to extend these services to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Latin America and the Middle East, where Android remains the dominant mobile operating system and demand for digital payment infrastructure continues to increase.
The Android rollout underscores the broader evolution of stablecoin-based financial services from cryptocurrency trading into mainstream consumer banking. As digital dollar ecosystems mature, competition is expected to center increasingly on payment networks, cross-border settlement capabilities and everyday financial utility rather than blockchain technology alone.
