Low-dose combination designed to improve tolerability and patient adherence
Presentation highlights growing global interest in early and intensive hypertension management
As global treatment strategies for hypertension increasingly shift toward earlier and more intensive blood pressure control, pharmaceutical companies are focusing on combination therapies that balance efficacy, safety, and patient convenience. Against this backdrop, CKD Pharmaceutical has presented new clinical data for its proprietary low-dose hypertension treatment at a major European medical conference.
The company announced on July 1 that it unveiled the integrated results of two domestic Phase 3 clinical studies of Telminuvo 20/1.25 mg at the 2026 European Society of Hypertension (ESH 2026) Congress held in Gdańsk, Poland.
Telminuvo is a fixed-dose combination therapy that combines telmisartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), and S-amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker (CCB). According to CKD Pharmaceutical, the product is the world's first low-dose combination formulation containing 20 mg of telmisartan and 1.25 mg of S-amlodipine.
The study analyzed data from two Phase 3 clinical trials involving patients with essential hypertension in South Korea. The findings were presented by Professor Jin-Oh Na of Korea University Guro Hospital's Department of Cardiology.
According to the analysis, Telminuvo demonstrated superior blood pressure-lowering efficacy compared with monotherapy treatments. After eight weeks of treatment, patients receiving Telminuvo recorded a reduction of 17.6 mmHg in systolic blood pressure, outperforming both telmisartan and S-amlodipine monotherapies, as well as conventional amlodipine treatment groups, the company said.
The therapy also showed encouraging safety results. Notably, no cases of peripheral edema—a common side effect associated with calcium channel blocker treatments—were observed during the clinical studies.
Industry experts note that low-dose combination therapies are gaining attention as a strategy to improve treatment adherence while minimizing adverse effects, particularly among patients in the early stages of hypertension.
In addition to clinical performance, CKD Pharmaceutical has focused on improving patient convenience. The company reduced tablet size to make administration easier and enhanced moisture stability to support long-term storage and product durability.
Global hypertension treatment guidelines have increasingly emphasized the importance of achieving blood pressure control at earlier stages of disease management. As a result, demand is growing for combination therapies capable of delivering stronger therapeutic effects while maintaining a favorable safety profile.
“Demand for low-dose combination therapies that offer both safety and convenience continues to increase as the number of hypertension patients rises globally,” an industry official said. “Competition among pharmaceutical companies developing improved and differentiated formulations is also expected to intensify.”
A CKD Pharmaceutical official said the ESH presentation provided an opportunity to showcase Telminuvo’s clinical differentiation and competitiveness to the international medical community.
“We were able to introduce the clinical value and unique advantages of Telminuvo on a global academic stage,” the company said. “We plan to further expand its presence as a new treatment option for patients with early-stage hypertension.”
