Echandia has signed an agreement to supply a battery system for a tugboat that will operate in Singapore’s harbor. The system is rated at 3 MWh and the contract includes an option for an additional unit. The customer is a Singapore-based shipyard and shipowner, though the parties were not identified. Echandia said the project aligns with Singapore’s plan to electrify its harbor craft fleet by 2030.

According to the company, the battery system is designed for a service life of at least 25 years. Echandia said the installation will use its lithium titanate oxide (LTO) battery technology, citing durability and operational reliability as key factors behind its selection. The company added that the system is intended to last for the operational lifetime of the tugboat, reducing the need for replacements. Echandia also said limited performance degradation over time could support more predictable operations and planning.

Echandia CEO Torbjörn Bäck said the company views the contract as part of a broader shift toward electrification in maritime transport. He added that the Singapore project reflects growing activity in the region and supports the company’s expansion in Asia. Echandia did not disclose the contract value or delivery timeline.

Echandia, founded in 2018 and headquartered in Stockholm, develops battery systems for maritime applications. The company said it has delivered or sold more than 100 maritime battery systems for electrification projects globally.
