Hyosung Chairman Cho Hyun-joon has increased his ownership in Hyosung and Hyosung Chemical, reinforcing his commitment to responsible management and the group's long-term growth strategy. Market observers view the continued share purchases by the group's top executive as a signal of confidence in the company's future value and business prospects.

According to a regulatory filing on Aug. 6, Cho acquired 23,445 shares of Hyosung Chemical from his mother, Song Kwang-ja, through an after-hours block trade at 63,700 won per share, for a total of approximately 1.5 billion won.

Following the transaction, Cho's holdings in Hyosung Chemical increased from 470,211 shares to 493,656 shares, raising his ownership stake by 0.62 percentage points to 13.02%.

Earlier this week, Cho also announced plans to acquire additional shares in Hyosung. Under the filing, he will purchase 82,929 common shares from Song on Sept. 4 through an over-the-counter transaction valued at approximately 12 billion won.

Once the transaction is completed, Cho's holdings in Hyosung will increase from 6,866,655 shares to 6,949,584 shares, lifting his ownership stake from 41.02% to 41.51%.

Industry analysts said the consecutive share purchases represent more than a simple transfer of ownership, reflecting the chairman's confidence in the group's long-term business strategy. Executives investing their own capital to increase shareholdings are widely regarded as demonstrating strong commitment to enhancing shareholder value and corporate governance.

Hyosung has recently strengthened its competitiveness by expanding investments in advanced materials, eco-friendly technologies, and power infrastructure businesses. Hyosung Heavy Industries continues to benefit from growing global demand for power equipment while accelerating its overseas expansion, and Hyosung Advanced Materials is expanding its portfolio of high-value products, including carbon fiber and aramid.

Hyosung Chemical is also focusing on improving profitability by strengthening its portfolio of eco-friendly materials and high-performance chemical products. Industry experts expect the company to benefit from a gradual recovery in the global economy and improving conditions in the petrochemical sector.

"An owner's decision to increase his stake is one of the clearest signals of confidence in a company's long-term value," an industry official said. "It also helps strengthen investor confidence by demonstrating responsible management."

The latest share acquisitions are expected to further solidify Cho's control over the group's core affiliates while underscoring his confidence in Hyosung's future growth businesses and long-term competitiveness.
