Merck Science Connect at IMID 2026 to explore multifunctional display technologies for the AI era
As artificial intelligence, spatial computing, and immersive digital experiences accelerate demand for next-generation displays, Merck is presenting a broad portfolio of material and optical technologies designed to improve performance, efficiency, and user experience.
Merck Korea announced that it is participating in K-Display 2026, Korea's largest display exhibition, taking place from July 22 to 24 at COEX in Seoul. At the exhibition, the company is showcasing a range of advanced solutions spanning OLED materials, optical films, liquid crystals, and semiconductor materials under the theme of unlocking the future of electronics through light.
The exhibition emphasizes Merck's strategy of combining its long-standing expertise in display materials with innovations in optics and semiconductor technologies to support future display applications.
Among the featured technologies are deuterated OLED materials designed to significantly extend display lifetime while enhancing image quality and color performance. The company is also presenting ultra-thin optical films based on reactive mesogen technology, including cholesteric liquid crystal color-patterning technology and optical solutions for virtual reality devices.
In the liquid crystal segment, Merck is demonstrating high-birefringence liquid crystal materials that deliver improved light transmittance and higher contrast ratios. The company is also introducing advanced photoresist and resolution enhancement technology (RET)-based materials developed to enable the fine patterning required for next-generation high-resolution displays.
"With more than 120 years of expertise in display technologies, Merck continues to expand the possibilities of future displays by integrating optics and semiconductor technologies," said Kim WooKyu, Managing Director and Representative Director of Merck Korea. "Visitors to our booth will be able to experience how light-based material innovations can shape the next generation of electronic devices."
Beyond the exhibition, Merck is hosting a variety of technical exchange programs. On the opening day, the company is offering guided booth tours for industry and academic participants. JunHo Kim, Global Head of OLED Material Development at Merck, is also delivering a presentation on the company's strategy and technological roadmap for next-generation OLED materials during the business forum.
Merck is further supporting the development of future display professionals through its collaboration with the Korean Information Display Society (KIDS). Students participating in the KIDS Display Camp will visit the Merck booth to learn about core display technologies and gain first-hand exposure to the industry's latest innovations.
The company will continue its knowledge-sharing activities at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2026), scheduled for August 18–21 at BEXCO in Busan. During the event, Merck will announce the recipient of the 23rd Merck Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to display and optoelectronics research.
Merck will also host its annual Merck Science Connect session under the theme, "The Evolution of Displays: Converging Multifunctionality for the Future AI Era." The session will feature experts from Merck's OLED, liquid crystal, and display patterning businesses, along with specialists from LG Display and the 2026 Merck Award recipient, who will discuss emerging trends and technological directions shaping the future of the global display industry.
