DB Financial Investment has entered into a strategic partnership with the Optimism Foundation, a global leader in Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) blockchain technology, to accelerate the development of security token offerings (STOs) and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization businesses in Korea and overseas.
The company announced Tuesday that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Optimism Foundation at the foundation's headquarters in Manhattan, New York. The signing ceremony was attended by Kyle Jenke, Chief Business Officer of the Optimism Foundation, and Lee Joo-sik, head of the Digital Asset Business Team at DB Financial Investment.
The agreement aims to combine Optimism's globally recognized blockchain infrastructure with DB Financial Investment's expertise in underwriting and capital market services to establish a differentiated collaboration model for digital asset businesses.
As the first joint initiative, the two organizations will develop a platform to tokenize innovative tangible and intangible assets from Jeju Island. The project will focus on environmentally friendly industries such as smart farming and livestock, as well as globally competitive Korean intellectual property (IP), including K-content, in the form of STOs and RWAs.
Under the partnership, DB Financial Investment will leverage its experience in corporate finance and capital market underwriting, while the Optimism Foundation will provide its advanced blockchain infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and efficiency for digital asset transactions.
Optimism is widely recognized as the leading Ethereum Layer 2 solution, designed to improve transaction speed and significantly reduce network fees while maintaining Ethereum's robust security. Its technology has been adopted by major global digital asset platforms and blockchain ecosystems, demonstrating its reliability and commercial viability.
DB Financial Investment expects the partnership to strengthen its digital asset strategy by expanding collaboration with local governments and creating new tokenization opportunities based on regional industries. The company also anticipates substantial cost savings by utilizing Optimism's established blockchain infrastructure rather than building a proprietary platform from scratch.
Industry observers believe the collaboration represents an important step in bridging traditional finance and blockchain technology. By tokenizing real-world assets and intellectual property, the partnership is expected to contribute to the growth of Korea's digital asset ecosystem while creating new financing opportunities for regional industries.
