KT’s mobile artificial intelligence (AI) education platform has received global recognition for its contribution to advancing AI literacy and reducing educational disparities. As the ability to effectively utilize AI technologies emerges as a key factor in future competitiveness, KT’s initiative was recognized for strengthening young people’s AI capabilities and expanding access to digital education.
KT announced that its ‘KT AI Station’ won the Champion Award in the Access to Information and Knowledge category at the WSIS Prizes 2026 ceremony held on June 10 (local time) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WSIS Prizes, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is one of the world’s leading awards programs in the field of information society development. The awards evaluate digital innovation projects based on their achievements and social impact. This year, a total of 1,595 projects competed, with KT being the only Korean company to receive an award.
The award-winning KT AI Station is a mobile AI education platform designed to deliver AI learning opportunities directly to regions with limited access to AI education infrastructure. Since 2025, KT has operated AI technology experience programs and AI ethics education sessions for schools and local communities in remote and rural areas, helping young students better understand and responsibly use AI technologies.
The initiative was recognized for going beyond basic technology training by providing comprehensive AI literacy education, including generative AI utilization, AI ethics, and digital citizenship skills required in the future society.
According to KT, its AI education programs were conducted across 21 regions and 19 schools last year, with a total of 1,797 students participating. Satisfaction surveys showed high levels of positive feedback, with students giving the program an average score of 4.77 out of 5, teachers rating it 4.94, and improvements in digital ethics awareness receiving a score of 4.84.
Industry observers view the award as an example of how the role of telecommunications companies is expanding beyond providing network infrastructure toward building social foundations for the AI era.
As AI technologies rapidly spread across industries, the gap in AI accessibility and utilization between regions and social groups has emerged as a new challenge. In response, companies are increasingly focusing not only on AI technology development but also on expanding educational opportunities and promoting digital inclusion. KT’s AI Station is considered a representative example of this broader trend.
In particular, the platform’s mobile education model has helped narrow the gap between major cities and areas with limited educational resources while enabling future generations to gain hands-on experience with AI technologies. The initiative is also being recognized as a sustainable ESG model that combines technological innovation with social responsibility.
With this award, KT has achieved the distinction of being named a WSIS Prize Champion for the second time. Previously, in 2024, KT received the Champion Award in the Ethical Dimensions of the Information Society (C10) category for its ‘KT Digital Citizen’ project.
KT plans to further expand the operating regions and target groups of AI Station while continuing to strengthen educational programs that help young people use AI safely, ethically, and responsibly.
