Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has unveiled the Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF, the industry’s first modem platform to support 3GPP Release 19, positioning it as a key milestone in advancing 5G-Advanced (5G-A) performance and laying the groundwork for future 6G development and testing.
Building on decades of leadership in wireless connectivity, the X105 significantly improves data speeds and power efficiency while introducing integrated quad-band GNSS and NR-NTN (non-terrestrial network) support.
The platform features a fifth-generation integrated AI processor that leverages agentic AI within the modem to detect, classify and optimize data traffic based on user scenarios. This enables enhanced user experiences across gaming, voice calls and social media applications.
Compared with its predecessor, the X105 reduces power consumption by up to 30% and shrinks board area by 15%. It also includes the industry’s first 6-nanometer RF transceiver, expanding Qualcomm’s expertise in modem-RF integration.
In terms of positioning and satellite connectivity, the X105 integrates the industry’s first quad-band (L1, L2, L5, L6) GNSS engine supporting multiple satellite constellations, delivering improved location accuracy. With NR-NTN capabilities, the platform supports video calls, streaming, data services, voice and messaging over satellite connections.
The modem achieves download speeds of up to 14.8 Gbps and up to 13.2 Gbps in sub-6 GHz spectrum. It also supports uplink speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps, addressing growing demand for higher uplink capacity.
Designed to accelerate 5G-Advanced adoption, the Release 19–ready architecture supports a broad range of devices, including smartphones, fixed wireless access (FWA) equipment, mobile broadband, automotive systems, extended reality (XR), PCs, robotics and industrial IoT.
Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager of technology planning, edge solutions and data centers at Qualcomm, said the X105 represents a major leap in wireless connectivity by combining hardware innovation with AI-enabled intelligence.
“As the first modem-RF system to support Release 19, the Qualcomm X105 delivers unprecedented 5G-Advanced performance through enhanced speed, power efficiency, uplink capabilities and integrated intelligence,” Malladi said, adding that Qualcomm will continue advancing edge AI and connected intelligence as it moves toward 6G.
Qualcomm is collaborating closely with global operators, infrastructure providers, device manufacturers and standards and regulatory bodies to accelerate 5G-Advanced momentum and prepare for the transition to 6G.
