A major international insurance conference aimed at strengthening the global competitiveness of Korea’s insurance industry and expanding cross-border collaboration concluded with record participation from industry leaders worldwide.
Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced on June 11 that it participated as a lead sponsor of the 3rd Korea International Insurance Conference (KIIC 2026), held from June 10 to 11 at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
The conference was organized to explore the evolving role of the insurance industry and identify future growth strategies amid a rapidly changing risk environment. Key topics included the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and autonomous driving on the insurance sector, as well as new approaches to risk management.
According to industry sources, this year’s event attracted approximately 1,300 insurance professionals from 175 companies across 27 countries, making it the largest gathering since the conference was launched. Participants included domestic non-life insurers and reinsurers, global reinsurance companies, insurance brokers, and technology firms, highlighting growing convergence between the insurance industry and advanced technologies.
One of the central themes of the conference was addressing the widening “protection gap” created by emerging social and economic risks. Participants discussed how aging populations, climate change, and digital transformation are generating new forms of risk that are increasingly difficult to cover through traditional insurance models alone. Industry leaders emphasized the need for closer collaboration among the private sector, public institutions, and academia to develop more comprehensive risk management frameworks.
The conference also featured the inaugural Partners Zone, where attendees explored autonomous driving technologies and cybersecurity solutions through interactive demonstrations. The exhibition underscored the expanding role of insurers beyond traditional policy underwriting, with growing emphasis on risk prediction, prevention, and value-added services.
On the second day, experts delivered presentations and participated in panel discussions on the future impact of AI on the insurance industry and global market trends. Industry participants noted that AI has the potential to enhance underwriting, claims assessment, and customer service efficiency, while simultaneously introducing new regulatory, governance, and ethical challenges.
Speakers stressed that balancing technological innovation with consumer protection will become one of the industry's most important priorities in the coming years.
Industry observers viewed the event as a significant opportunity to elevate the international profile of Korea’s insurance sector. The participation of global reinsurers, technology companies, and automotive manufacturers demonstrated the growing potential for insurers to become key partners within future mobility and digital ecosystems.
As emerging technologies continue to reshape risk landscapes worldwide, conferences such as KIIC are expected to play an increasingly important role in fostering international cooperation and driving innovation across the insurance industry.
