Hanwha Ocean is accelerating its push into the global naval defense market by unveiling advanced warship technologies designed for future maritime combat environments, centered on its next-generation destroyer platform.
The company announced that it will participate in the Yi Sun-sin Defense Industry Exhibition, taking place from April 1 to 3 at the Naval Academy and Pier 11 in Jinhae, Changwon. Hanwha Ocean will operate a joint booth with Hanwha Systems, presenting an integrated package that highlights the group’s combined naval defense capabilities.
Building on its experience in developing all Korean destroyer programs—from KDX-I Gwanggaeto the Great to KDX-II and KDX-III—Hanwha Ocean will introduce its next-generation destroyer concept. The platform is designed around key features such as manned-unmanned teaming, multi-layered defense systems, and optimized crew operations.
A central feature of the destroyer is its mission bay, which supports the deployment of various unmanned systems, including UAVs, USVs, and UUVs, enabling coordinated operations between manned and unmanned assets. The vessel also incorporates multi-layered defense capabilities using laser weapons and loitering munitions. In addition, AI-based damage control, a smart bridge, and an integrated combat information center are applied to enhance both operational efficiency and survivability.
Hanwha Ocean will also unveil a multi-role “manned-unmanned force carrier” capable of supporting a range of aerial and maritime unmanned missions, as well as the ASR-II submarine rescue vessel designed for deep-sea rescue operations.
The company is also emphasizing its export competitiveness. The “Jangbogo-III Batch-II” submarine model, proposed for Canada’s next-generation submarine program (CPSP), valued at approximately KRW 60 trillion, will be displayed to target overseas orders.
At the joint booth, Hanwha Systems will present its “smart battleship” solution, combining AI-based intelligent combat systems with stealth design. A key highlight is the cockpit-style Integrated Bridge System (IBS), which merges the Combat Management System (CMS) and the Engineering Control System (ECS). Designed for next-generation destroyers, the IBS features intuitive display-based operation and augmented reality (AR) situational awareness to significantly improve command and control efficiency.
In addition, the unmanned surface vessel “Sea GHOST,” equipped with AI-based autonomous navigation technology, will be exhibited. The platform features wave-avoidance navigation and target detection capabilities, making it well-suited for maritime surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
A Hanwha Ocean official stated that the company’s next-generation platforms deliver the combat performance, survivability, and operational efficiency required for future battlefields, adding that it aims to maintain a competitive edge in the global naval defense market.
