Samsung Heavy Industries announced in a regulatory filing on November 20 that it has secured an order worth approximately 1.922 trillion KRW (about 1.45 billion USD) from a shipowner in Asia for the construction of seven container carriers. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by November 2029.
Global demand for eco-friendly ships continues to rise, and orders for LNG dual-fuel (DF) container vessels have been increasing accordingly. With this latest contract, Samsung Heavy Industries’ total order intake for the year has reached 6.9 billion USD.
By vessel type, the company has so far secured orders for seven LNG carriers, nine shuttle tankers, nine container ships, two ethane carriers, eleven crude oil carriers, and one offshore production facility preparatory work contract, totaling 39 units across a diverse portfolio.
Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative order backlog now stands at 132 vessels worth 28.2 billion USD, ensuring a stable pipeline of work moving forward.
