SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is set to visit the United States as SK hynix begins trading its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on the Nasdaq, with the trip expected to focus on strengthening global investor relations and expanding partnerships in the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor ecosystem.

According to industry sources on July 9, Chey is scheduled to attend SK hynix’s Nasdaq listing ceremony in New York on July 10 (local time) along with SK hynix CEO Kwak No-jung and other senior executives.

The event will mark SK hynix’s entry into the U.S. capital market and provide an opportunity for the company’s leadership to directly communicate its long-term growth strategy and technological competitiveness to global investors.

The ADR listing is expected to become a major milestone in SK hynix’s global expansion strategy. By increasing accessibility for U.S.-based investors, the company aims to broaden its international shareholder base and enhance market recognition as a leading AI memory semiconductor supplier.

SK hynix’s ADR offering is valued at approximately 43 trillion won ($31 billion), with up to 17.79 million new shares to be issued, representing about 2.5% of total outstanding shares. The funds raised will be used to strengthen future semiconductor capabilities, including the construction of production facilities and investment in advanced manufacturing equipment.

The proceeds are expected to support the development of the first fabrication facility at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, the construction of the Cheongju P&T7 advanced packaging facility, and the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment such as extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems.

Industry attention is also focused on whether Chey will hold meetings with executives from major global technology companies during his U.S. visit. With AI infrastructure investment accelerating worldwide, discussions are expected to center on expanding cooperation in high bandwidth memory (HBM), next-generation memory solutions, and AI data center technologies.

In particular, market observers believe Chey could meet with key AI ecosystem partners, including Nvidia, to discuss future collaboration opportunities. SK hynix has become a critical supplier of HBM products used in advanced AI accelerators, positioning the company at the center of the rapidly expanding AI semiconductor market.

Chey previously met Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Silicon Valley in February, where the two sides discussed cooperation in HBM, SOCAMM, NAND flash memory, and AI data center solutions. The two executives also held follow-up discussions during Huang’s visit to South Korea, reaffirming their partnership in AI semiconductor development.

Analysts say SK hynix’s Nasdaq listing represents more than a fundraising opportunity, serving as a strategic move to strengthen its position in the global AI supply chain. As competition intensifies among semiconductor companies seeking leadership in AI memory technologies, expanding relationships with international investors and customers has become increasingly important.

A semiconductor industry official said, “In the AI era, technological capability alone is not enough. Global partnerships, investment networks, and supply chain cooperation have become critical factors determining competitiveness.”

Industry watchers also view Chey’s U.S. visit as part of SK Group’s broader strategy to expand its presence in AI-related industries. The group has been increasing investments across semiconductors, AI infrastructure, energy, and data center businesses, making global collaboration a key component of its future growth plans.
