Hyundai Steel has been recognized as a “Sustainability Champion” for the second consecutive year by the World Steel Association, underscoring its commitment to ESG and sustainable steel production.
The company announced on April 15 that it received the 2026 Sustainability Champion recognition at the World Steel Association’s general assembly held in Berlin, Germany. Following its first recognition in 2023, Hyundai Steel has now been named a top member for both 2025 and 2026.
The World Steel Association evaluates around 150 member companies annually on sustainability performance, including climate action, environmental impact, and social responsibility. The Sustainability Champion designation is awarded to companies demonstrating the highest level of achievement in these areas.
To qualify, companies must meet key criteria, including membership in the Sustainability Charter, recognition as a finalist in the Steelie Awards, and submission of lifecycle environmental impact data.
Hyundai Steel fulfilled all requirements, including meeting ESG and climate-related standards set by the association. The company was also named a finalist in both the innovation and sustainability categories at the 2025 Steelie Awards, with projects including the development of ultra-high-strength hot stamping materials and resource recycling initiatives across industries.
The company also submitted lifecycle inventory (LCI) data, completing all evaluation requirements.
Hyundai Steel stated that the recognition reflects its proactive response to evolving sustainability standards in the steel industry, which now extend beyond carbon reduction to include full lifecycle environmental impact, safety, and cross-industry value chain integration.
