SK hynix said on January 28 that it is planning to establish a new AI solutions company in the United States, aiming to expand its role within the global AI data center ecosystem.
Tentatively named AI Company (AI Co.), the new entity is intended to build on SK hynix’s competitiveness in AI memory technologies, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM). The company said the initiative marks a shift beyond its traditional role as a memory manufacturer toward becoming a core partner in AI data center solutions.
Through AI Co., SK hynix plans to pursue strategic investments in AI-capable companies and expand collaboration with U.S.-based AI innovators. The company aims to strengthen its memory leadership while developing solution capabilities across the entire AI data center value chain, as demand grows for system-level optimization to address data bottlenecks.
SK hynix also sees the new entity as a platform to link capabilities acquired in the U.S. market with broader group-level synergies. The company expects the global network and technology partnerships formed through AI Co. to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of Korea’s AI and semiconductor industries amid intensifying global competition.
AI Co. will be established through the reorganization of Solidigm, SK hynix’s U.S.-based subsidiary focused on high-capacity enterprise SSDs for AI data centers. Solidigm will spin off a new subsidiary to transfer its business, with corporate and brand names to be updated at a later date. The newly created subsidiary will retain the Solidigm Inc. name to ensure business continuity.
SK hynix said it plans to commit up to USD 10 billion to AI Co. in line with capital calls.
“Establishing AI Co. is a strategic step to secure new opportunities in the AI data center ecosystem as the next AI era approaches,” SK hynix said. “By working closely with key AI partners in the U.S., we aim to create customer value ahead of market needs.”
