LS Electric will showcase its latest energy storage system (ESS) technologies and power infrastructure solutions at Smart Grid Expo 2026 in Tokyo, highlighting its strategy to expand in the rapidly growing global energy storage market.

The company announced on March 12 that it will participate in the exhibition, scheduled to take place from March 17 to 19 at Tokyo Big Sight, one of the world’s largest smart energy exhibitions.

At the event, LS Electric will operate a 145.8-square-meter booth under the theme “Journey Toward a Sustainable Future.” The exhibition will feature a range of solutions including a next-generation modular ESS platform, power infrastructure designed for data centers, and transmission and distribution equipment.

The centerpiece of the showcase will be the company’s next-generation modular ESS platform called MSSP (Modular Scalable String Platform). The system modularizes the core power conversion component known as PEBB (Power Electronic Building Block) into 200-kilowatt units, enabling independent smart operation. LS Electric developed the platform based on its expertise in power electronics and industrial inverter manufacturing.

The company has also been expanding its ESS business beyond engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) to include investment and operational roles. Last year, LS Electric secured an EPC contract for a large ESS project in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, valued at approximately 36 billion won, involving a 20-megawatt PCS and a 90-megawatt-hour battery system.

In addition, the company is investing in and operating an ESS power plant project in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, featuring a 2-megawatt PCS and an 8-megawatt-hour battery system. LS Electric’s total ESS-related orders in Japan last year reached about 70 billion won.

The exhibition will also feature power infrastructure solutions targeting Japan’s expanding data center market. Key products include the UL891 data center distribution board, direct-current power devices such as ACB and MCCB, and the Beyond X CUBE infrastructure management platform.

In addition, LS Electric will display a range of power equipment covering the entire transmission and distribution chain, including transformers, switchboards, STATCOM systems for reactive power compensation, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), and ring main units (RMU). Integrated power management technology based on SCADA monitoring and control systems will also be introduced.

Japan’s ESS market has been growing rapidly due to rising demand for grid stabilization as renewable energy capacity expands. The market size has increased from about 10 billion yen in 2020 to approximately 100 billion yen in 2026 and is projected to reach around 400 billion yen by 2030.

An LS Electric representative said Japan represents a key growth hub for the global ESS industry. Through the exhibition, the company aims to demonstrate its integrated capabilities ranging from ESS power plant construction to power infrastructure solutions while strengthening its brand presence in the market.
