LG Uplus has expanded its tablet-based IPTV lineup with the launch of a new bundled service, “U+tv Free 5 for iPad,” marking its first integration of Apple’s iPadOS into its IPTV ecosystem. The move aims to diversify supported devices and enhance user experience by enabling television services directly on Apple’s iPad.
The company announced on the 25th that the new product combines IPTV services with Apple’s iPad, allowing users to access live TV channels and video-on-demand (VOD) content without a traditional television set. LG Uplus described the launch as a significant step toward broadening viewing options and improving the flexibility of its media platform.
Until now, the U+tv Free series had been primarily built around Android-based tablets. With this latest release, LG Uplus is expanding compatibility to iPadOS for the first time, reflecting growing demand for cross-device streaming experiences and personalized content consumption.
The service runs on Apple’s iPad A16 model, which features a high-resolution Liquid Retina display and Wi-Fi 6 support, delivering sharper visuals and improved color accuracy. These specifications are designed to enhance streaming quality, making both live broadcasts and on-demand content more immersive while reducing eye strain during extended viewing.
Functionally, the service provides access to terrestrial and cable live channels, alongside a wide range of VOD content. It also includes a touch-based interface and voice search capabilities, improving usability and allowing the device to be used not only for entertainment but also for education and productivity purposes.
LG Uplus positions the product as a hybrid solution that combines hardware and IPTV services into a single offering. The service is available only when used with a designated iPad device activated through LG Uplus and a specific home Wi-Fi setup. Customers subscribing to a bundled plan that includes 1Gbps internet and premium IPTV service under a three-year contract can access the iPad-based TV service at a monthly installment cost of KRW 9,900 (including VAT).
The company expects the product to appeal particularly to small households of one to two people, as well as users who prefer personal viewing environments or wish to avoid the cost and space requirements of additional televisions. The service also supports multi-screen usage scenarios within households, enabling separate content viewing across family members.
LG Uplus first introduced the “U+tv Free” concept in 2018, positioning it as a “TV without a television” experience by combining IPTV services with tablets. Since then, the company has continued to expand the lineup with upgraded versions such as “Free 4” and “Free 5 SE,” improving both performance and usability over time.
With the launch of the iPad-based edition, LG Uplus is further extending its strategy of device diversification and personalized media delivery. The move is widely seen as part of a broader industry shift toward flexible, mobile-first entertainment consumption models.
The service is available through LG Uplus retail stores nationwide, customer service centers, technician visits, and delivery-based activation. Existing customers can also access the service through set-top box additions or device upgrades.
