SK hynix’s planned U.S. listing through American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) has attracted overwhelming demand from global investors, highlighting strong market confidence in the company’s position in the fast-growing artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor industry.
According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, investor orders for SK hynix’s ADR offering exceeded seven times the number of shares available during the bookbuilding process held on July 8. The offering drew interest from a wide range of institutional investors, including global long-term funds, technology-focused investment funds, sovereign wealth funds, and international investors specializing in Asian markets.
The strong demand comes as global investors seek opportunities linked to the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure. SK hynix has emerged as one of the leading suppliers of high-performance memory solutions, particularly high bandwidth memory (HBM), which is considered a critical component for advanced AI computing systems.
The final offering price is expected to be determined based on investor demand and market conditions. If the ADR price is set based on SK hynix’s closing share price of 2.076 million won on July 8, the fundraising size could reach approximately $24.5 billion. This would make it the second-largest U.S. listing by a foreign company, following Alibaba Group’s record-setting offering of around $25 billion.
The ADR structure allows foreign companies to provide U.S. investors with easier access to their shares while expanding their presence in the world’s largest capital market. For SK hynix, the listing is expected to broaden its global investor base and strengthen its ability to attract international capital.
Market analysts view the strong subscription demand as a reflection of investors’ positive outlook on AI-driven semiconductor growth rather than simply interest in a large-scale equity offering. As global technology companies continue to increase spending on AI data centers, demand for advanced memory products such as HBM and next-generation DRAM has accelerated.
SK hynix has gained a competitive advantage in the AI memory sector through its early focus on HBM technology. The company has become a key supplier to major AI chip ecosystems, benefiting from rising demand for high-performance computing infrastructure.
Industry observers believe the ADR listing could further enhance SK hynix’s global visibility and improve valuation recognition among international investors. By increasing access to U.S.-based institutional capital, the company could strengthen its strategic position amid intensifying competition in the global semiconductor market.
However, analysts note that maintaining investor confidence will depend on SK hynix’s ability to successfully expand production capacity, sustain technological leadership, and navigate potential changes in the semiconductor cycle. Factors such as AI investment momentum, memory supply conditions, and global economic uncertainty will remain important variables.
SK hynix’s ADRs are scheduled to begin conditional trading on the Nasdaq on July 10, with regular trading expected to start on July 13. Market participants are closely watching the debut as a key indicator of global investor sentiment toward AI semiconductor companies.
