HS Hyosung Advanced Materials announced on March 30 that it has completed the construction of a 17.5MWp rooftop solar power system at its manufacturing facility in the Nhon Trach Industrial Complex in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, and has commenced commercial operations.
The project was carried out in collaboration with energy IT company NuriFlex, focusing on building a “smart green factory” that integrates renewable energy with digital energy management technologies. The facility is equipped with an Internet of Things (IoT)-based energy management system that enables real-time monitoring of power generation and equipment status, optimizing operational efficiency. The company expects the system to enhance energy efficiency while simultaneously improving equipment stability and production productivity.
HS Hyosung Advanced Materials plans to expand its solar capacity at the Nhon Trach complex to a total of 37.5MWp once additional installations are completed in August. When the full system becomes operational in the second half of the year, the company anticipates annual electricity cost savings exceeding KRW 6 billion. Beyond cost reduction, the initiative is expected to strengthen cost competitiveness and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The investment also holds strategic importance in addressing ESG requirements from global clients. Through its IoT-based energy solutions, the Nhon Trach facility can systematically track and manage carbon reduction generated from solar power, enabling data-driven reporting on renewable energy usage and emissions.
The Nhon Trach complex serves as a key production base supplying critical components to global tire manufacturers, including Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Continental, and Pirelli. As these companies increasingly demand carbon management and renewable energy adoption across their supply chains, the solar project is seen as a move to enhance ESG competitiveness at the supply chain level.
A company official stated that HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is simultaneously pursuing renewable energy transition and energy efficiency improvements at its Vietnam production base, adding that the expansion of solar facilities will strengthen both cost competitiveness and ESG capabilities while proactively meeting the evolving demands of global customers.
