Real-time health and environmental monitoring targets construction, manufacturing, and logistics industries
As industrial safety becomes a top priority amid stricter workplace safety regulations, companies are increasingly adopting AI-powered and connected technologies to prevent accidents and improve on-site risk management. Wearable devices combined with private wireless networks are emerging as key tools for enhancing worker safety across industrial environments.
KT announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Samsung Electronics to launch "Safety Management Watch," a new industrial safety service built on KT's Enterprise 5G network.
The solution combines KT's Enterprise 5G infrastructure with Samsung Electronics' SmartThings Pro for Safety platform, delivering real-time monitoring of workers' health conditions and workplace environments through enterprise Galaxy Watches.
KT's Enterprise 5G service enables businesses to separate internal corporate traffic from public mobile networks using a dedicated gateway, providing enhanced security, reliability, and optimized connectivity for enterprise operations.
The Safety Management Watch utilizes Samsung's SmartThings Pro for Safety solution to analyze environmental conditions—including temperature and humidity—alongside biometric data such as heart rate and physical activity. The platform provides personalized safety monitoring designed for industrial workers.
Key features include SOS emergency requests, fall and drop detection, abnormal heart rate alerts, heat stress monitoring, hazardous zone access management, and integrated monitoring of devices, work areas, and personnel.
Workers can use the Galaxy Watch to monitor their health status in real time and automatically notify nearby colleagues and supervisors if an emergency occurs. Safety managers, meanwhile, can monitor workers' health information together with environmental data—including weather, temperature, and location—to quickly identify potential risks and respond more effectively.
KT and Samsung plan to expand the service to a wider range of industrial sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and logistics, by combining private enterprise networks, wearable devices, and SmartThings Pro-based safety management capabilities.
The launch reflects KT's broader strategy to expand its AI Transformation (AX) safety portfolio. In addition to Safety Management Watch, the company offers AI-powered emergency voice recognition devices that detect screams or calls for help, AI-based safe driving solutions that warn drivers of dangerous behavior, Event Video Monitoring System (EVMS) technology that analyzes CCTV footage in real time, and intelligent fire detection solutions.
Industry analysts say AI, IoT, and wearable technologies are rapidly transforming industrial safety by enabling continuous monitoring, real-time data analysis, and immediate emergency response. These technologies are expected to play an increasingly important role in reducing workplace accidents while improving operational efficiency.
"With growing social awareness of industrial safety and increasing corporate responsibility, our collaboration with Samsung Electronics enables us to deliver more advanced workplace safety services to Enterprise 5G customers," said Jeon Myung-jun, Executive Vice President and Head of Enterprise Service Division at KT Enterprise. "KT will continue expanding its AI Transformation safety solutions to help strengthen the safety capabilities of enterprise customers."
