Doosan Robotics announced on Oct. 20 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with leading future‑agriculture company Daedong Co., Ltd. to jointly develop on‑device AI technology and collaborate on robotics business in the agricultural sector.

Under the agreement, the two firms will cooperate on developing field robots optimized for smart farms and outdoor agricultural environments; commercializing on‑device AI applicable to unstructured farming conditions; and pursuing global markets for field robots.

Doosan Robotics will lead design and manufacture of the robot arm and control systems, and develop robotic arm motion to productize an agriculture‑specialized mobile manipulator (MoMa). Daedong will handle design and manufacture of an autonomous mobility platform based on diverse agricultural field data, field validation and advancement, on‑site safety certification, and support for complying with overseas regulations.

A mobile manipulator (MoMa) combines an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) with a robotic arm to perform complex, mobile tasks.

The partners also plan to jointly develop on‑device AI that can perceive at near‑human levels and operate in unstructured environments, and to collaborate on bidding for future government projects to develop system‑on‑chip (SoC) AI platforms. On‑device AI runs intelligence locally on the device rather than on cloud servers, enabling real‑time AI services without internet connectivity while offering privacy and low‑latency response. Doosan Robotics will standardize key SoC elements for robots — including performance, functions and interfaces — and develop AI algorithms and firmware for the platform.

System on a chip (SoC) integrates multiple electronic circuits and functions onto a single semiconductor chip.

Doosan Robotics CEO Kim Min‑pyo said the MOU will enable development of robotic solutions suited for harsh work environments and labor‑short farming sites, and added that combining Daedong’s field equipment manufacturing experience with Doosan Robotics’ robotics expertise will accelerate productization of the MoMa and entry into global agricultural markets.
