Samsung E&A has strengthened its presence in the global EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) industry after winning a prestigious MEED Projects Award in the Middle East.

The company announced on November 20 that the APOC PDH/UTOS project in Saudi Arabia was selected as the winner in the Energy category at the MEED Projects Awards ceremony held in Dubai, UAE, on November 19.

MEED (Middle East Economic Digest), the most respected business publication in the region, annually evaluates major MENA (Middle East and North Africa) projects and awards those demonstrating outstanding performance. With this latest recognition, Samsung E&A has achieved the milestone of winning a MEED Projects Award for 14 consecutive years, underscoring its technological innovation and exceptional project execution capabilities.

The award-winning APOC PDH/UTOS project involves the construction of a PDH plant capable of producing 840,000 tons of propylene annually, along with utility infrastructure, at the Jubail 2 Industrial Complex in northeastern Saudi Arabia.

Samsung E&A was awarded the full EPC contract from Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Polyolefins Company (APOC), handling engineering, procurement and construction for the project. The project was first named the “National Winner” as the top energy project in Saudi Arabia and later received the Highly Commended Award for the entire MENA region.

Despite external uncertainties, Samsung E&A successfully delivered the project on schedule by leveraging advanced technologies such as design automation and modularization, combined with extensive field experience. The company also reduced construction waste and improved resource efficiency by reusing existing nearby facilities. Additionally, the project earned praise for its commitment to local sourcing and hiring, contributing to community and economic development.

A Samsung E&A representative stated, “This award reaffirms Samsung E&A’s differentiated project execution capabilities on the global stage. We will continue to strengthen our position in the Middle East by delivering innovation and top-quality solutions.”
