Taihan Cable & Solution is strengthening its global power infrastructure strategy by building a new extra-high voltage (EHV) power cable production facility in Vietnam.

The company announced on March 12 that its Vietnamese manufacturing subsidiary, Taihan Cable Vina, has begun construction of a 400kV-class EHV cable plant in Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam. The project marks Taihan Cable’s first overseas production base dedicated to extra-high voltage cables and is part of the company’s strategy to expand international manufacturing capabilities in response to growing global investment in power grids.

The new facility will be built on a 56,200-square-meter site within the Long Thanh Industrial Zone in Dong Nai Province. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2027. Once completed, Taihan Vina will become the only company in Vietnam capable of producing 400kV-class extra-high voltage cables.

Taihan Cable expects the investment to strengthen its ability to serve global markets including Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Demand for EHV cables is increasing worldwide as countries accelerate power grid expansion and renewable energy infrastructure development.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant was held on March 11 at Taihan Cable Vina’s facility in Dong Nai Province. About 150 guests attended the event, including Kim Dae-heon, Head of Planning at Hoban Group; Kim Min-sung, Vice President of Planning; Kim Jun-seok, Executive Vice President at Taihan Cable; Chung Jung-tae, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City; Choi Gyu-cheol, Director of KOTRA Ho Chi Minh; and local government officials from Dong Nai Province.

The ceremony featured a traditional Vietnamese lion dance performance followed by welcome speeches, a commemorative video presentation, and a groundbreaking ritual to mark the start of construction. Participants expressed hopes for the project’s safe and successful completion.

Kim Jun-seok, Executive Vice President at Taihan Cable, said Taihan Vina has been a key overseas production base for the company over the past two decades, supported by accumulated manufacturing experience and strong quality competitiveness.

“With the construction of this new plant, we aim to contribute to the advancement of Vietnam’s power grid while strengthening our competitiveness in the global energy infrastructure market,” Kim said.

Vietnam’s electricity demand has been rising rapidly due to accelerated industrialization and urbanization. Industry forecasts suggest that power demand in the country could grow by 10 to 12 percent annually through 2030, with large-scale projects planned to expand ultra-high voltage transmission networks of 220kV and above.

Established in 2005, Taihan Cable Vina manufactures high-voltage (HV), medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) power cables as well as overhead transmission lines. Taihan Cable plans to further develop the Vietnamese facility into a key global production hub alongside its Dangjin cable plant in South Korea through continued equipment investment and technology upgrades.
