Hanwha Aerospace has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Spanish defence company Indra Group to jointly develop and offer armoured vehicle solutions for the Chilean Army, while expanding cooperation across the Latin American defence market.
The agreement was signed on April 9 during the FIDAE 2026 International Air and Space Fair in Santiago, Chile, a major regional event for the aerospace and defence industry.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dong Hyeon Kim, head of Hanwha Aerospace’s Land Systems Business Group; Domingo Castro Fernández, Indra’s Director of Defence and Security for the Americas; María Dolores Carrillo Aguilera, Indra’s Business Development Director for Land Systems; and Hak-jae Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Chile.
Under the partnership, the two companies will jointly propose an integrated solution for Chile’s next-generation armoured vehicle program. Hanwha Aerospace will supply its Tigon armoured vehicle platforms, while Indra will provide mission system equipment, including connectivity, situational awareness, and command-and-control (C2) capabilities. Indra will also take the lead in coordinating regional operations.
The collaboration goes beyond traditional equipment supply by offering a turnkey solution that combines Hanwha Aerospace’s proven vehicle platforms with Indra’s advanced defence electronics technologies.
Starting with Chile, the companies plan to expand their cooperation into broader ground defence programs across Latin America, targeting increasing demand in the region.
Dong Hyeon Kim said the partnership would enable both companies to deliver more comprehensive solutions by combining Hanwha Aerospace’s platform expertise with Indra’s strong capabilities in defence electronics and its established presence in Latin America.
An Indra Group spokesperson said the agreement provides an optimal framework to integrate the core technologies and strengths of both companies into a competitive and advanced solution capable of meeting growing regional demand.
