Hanwha Aerospace said the procurement follows Norway’s earlier K9 VIDAR acquisition and related delivery record.
The purchase is intended to strengthen Norway’s long-range precision-strike capabilities in the Nordic region.
Hanwha Aerospace said it has signed a contract with NDMA to supply the Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) to the Norwegian Armed Forces.
The company said Norway’s broader acquisition project is budgeted at $2 billion, and that the Chunmoo-related agreement is valued at approximately $922 million. Under the contract, Hanwha Aerospace will deliver 16 Chunmoo launch vehicles, a precision-guided missile package, and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS).
The contract was signed in Oslo on January 30, 2026, by Jae-il Son and Gro Jære, the company said. Hanwha Aerospace added that officials from the Republic of Korea and Norway attended, including Hoon-sik Kang, Hyun-jong Kim, Min-jung Seo, Yong-chul Lee, Marte Gerhardsen, and Lars Lervik.
Hanwha Aerospace said the Chunmoo selection follows roughly a decade of cooperation with the Norwegian Armed Forces. The company cited a 2017 contract covering 52 K9 VIDAR self-propelled howitzers and 14 K10 ammunition resupply vehicles, and said it delivered the equipment on time. It added that the logistics and operational framework established for the K9 fleet was referenced in the introduction of the Chunmoo system.
For Norway’s requirements, Hanwha Aerospace said the system has been adapted for Arctic conditions, including low temperatures and snowy terrain, and designed to integrate with Norway’s existing defense infrastructure and fire-control systems.
The company stated that Chunmoo operators now include those in South Korea, Poland, Estonia, and the Middle East, and that a larger user base could support interoperability and shared logistics practices among operators. Hanwha Aerospace also said it plans to pursue cooperation with the Norwegian industry, including potential joint development activities or local testing.
Hanwha Aerospace is a defense and aerospace company and an affiliate of Hanwha Group. The company stated that its portfolio encompasses systems and components across land, sea, air, and space domains, and that it pursues partnerships through localization, co-production, and technology transfer.
