SK hynix has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies (WMEC) for 2026 by global ethics assessment organization Ethisphere, marking its second consecutive year on the list and reinforcing the sustainability of its ethics management framework.

The recognition places SK hynix among 138 companies selected across 17 countries and 40 industries this year. Within the semiconductor sector, only five companies worldwide were included, with SK hynix being the sole representative from Korea. Notably, the company achieved a higher score than the previous year despite more stringent evaluation criteria, highlighting the effectiveness of its ethics management practices.

Ethisphere evaluates companies based on its proprietary Ethics Quotient, which measures ethical business practices, compliance systems, and governance structures. Participating companies are required to submit detailed evidence across more than 240 assessment criteria, with final selections determined through rigorous expert review.

The 2026 evaluation introduced more demanding standards, shifting from a simple assessment of whether ethical systems are in place to a deeper examination of execution, process structure, and documented outcomes. While many companies faced challenges adapting to the updated criteria, SK hynix not only met the requirements but improved its overall performance.

One of the most notable improvements was seen in the company’s management and support for ethical practices among its suppliers. SK hynix has continued to expand shared values around ethical management with its partners, conducting regular anonymous surveys to identify needs and offering on-site counseling programs to strengthen trust-based, sustainable partnerships.

The company’s proactive analysis of global ethics trends and its efforts to address gaps ahead of evaluation updates also contributed to its performance. In addition, initiatives such as enhancing internal audit capabilities through specialized training programs and adopting AI and digital technologies to prevent and monitor unethical practices were viewed positively.

A company official said SK hynix was able to respond effectively to the new evaluation standards by providing concrete evidence of its ongoing ethics management activities, emphasizing that the recognition reflects how deeply its ethical framework is embedded in day-to-day operations.

According to the World Federation of Exchanges, there are approximately 50,000 listed companies globally, yet only around 130 companies on average have been selected as WMEC over the past three years. This underscores the significance of the designation as a benchmark for top-tier ethical management.

Maintaining the recognition is also becoming increasingly difficult as evaluation standards continue to evolve. Several companies included in last year’s list were excluded this year, highlighting the challenge of consistently meeting rising global expectations. For Asian companies in particular, aligning with criteria developed in Western contexts often requires additional considerations.

Despite these challenges, SK hynix has secured back-to-back recognition, demonstrating that its ethics management system has evolved into a sustainable and globally competitive framework. Erica Salmon Byrne, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Chair at Ethisphere, noted that this year’s honorees are embedding ethics into everyday decision-making and long-term strategy, strengthening governance and compliance to support sustained success.

Following the announcement, SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung shared a message with employees, emphasizing that the achievement reflects the collective efforts of the organization. He noted that the company’s global leadership in memory technology, alongside its recognition in ethical management, is the result of transparent management principles and responsible execution at all levels.

As technological shifts and investment environments continue to evolve rapidly, the role of ethics management is expected to become even more critical. Industry observers view the WMEC recognition as not only a validation of current practices but also a foundation for strengthening SK hynix’s long-term competitiveness.

An ethics management official at SK hynix added that, much like building a healthy body, strong ethical standards are developed through consistent, everyday practices, and that the company will continue working to embed ethics as a core organizational culture while enhancing trust both internally and externally.
