Kim Hwe-chan, President and CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), has visited the Czech Republic on his first overseas trip since taking office, aiming to strengthen cooperation on the Dukovany nuclear power plant project.
KHNP announced that Kim met with key Czech officials, including Minister of Industry and Trade and First Deputy Prime Minister Karel Havlíček, to discuss project direction and areas of collaboration. The visit was intended to enhance on-site communication and support the smooth progress of the Dukovany project.
During his trip, Kim also held meetings with executives from ČEZ, the Czech state-owned utility, and EDU II, the project developer. He emphasized KHNP’s commitment to successfully delivering the project.
In addition, Kim met with representatives of the Czech nuclear safety authority, reaffirming KHNP’s intention to comply with all regulatory requirements and licensing procedures in accordance with local laws and standards.
In discussions with the Czech industry minister, both sides reviewed policy directions and the project timeline, with KHNP reiterating its plan to proceed in a stable and timely manner.
Kim also visited the Dukovany construction site to inspect preparations and assess progress on the ground.
“The Dukovany project is a key initiative for the Czech Republic’s energy security and carbon neutrality goals,” Kim said. “KHNP will carry out the project responsibly while strengthening South Korea’s competitiveness in the global nuclear power market.”
