The company said on March 25 that the funding will support the expansion of USDM1, a Marshall Islands-issued digital sovereign debt instrument backed by short-term US Treasuries.

M1X Global said on March 25 that it had launched publicly and completed a $3m angel funding round, as the company seeks to expand a blockchain-based platform designed to help sovereign issuers create and manage financial instruments on-chain.

The company, which operates in partnership with the Republic of the Marshall Islands, said the proceeds would be used for platform development, broader institutional access, and pilot programmes involving capital markets and derivatives participants.

M1X Global’s central product is USDM1, which it describes as a US dollar-denominated sovereign debt instrument issued natively on blockchain infrastructure. According to the company, the instrument is issued by the Marshall Islands, backed one-to-one by short-duration US Treasury instruments, and structured under New York law.

The company said the instrument is intended to show how sovereign debt can be issued in digital form while remaining compatible with existing institutional frameworks. It added that the structure is designed to give holders a first-priority security interest in the collateral.

The funding round included both strategic investments and grants. Participants included investors and executives with backgrounds in digital assets, market structure and technology, among them Balaji Srinivasan, Tama Churchouse, Richard Gorelick and Dan Robichaud. M1X Global also said FJ Labs participated in the round and that the Stellar Development Foundation provided grant funding.

The launch comes as a growing number of financial and public-sector projects explore whether blockchain-based infrastructure can be used for more conventional financial instruments, including debt issuance, collateral management and settlement. M1X Global is positioning its platform around that trend, with a focus on sovereign and public-sector use cases.

USDM1 also supports a universal basic income programme in the Marshall Islands through the Lomalo digital wallet, according to the company. The arrangement links the instrument not only to capital markets infrastructure but also to a domestic public distribution system.

M1X Global said it plans to use the new funding to expand access to USDM1 among institutional users and continue building infrastructure for governments seeking to operate in on-chain financial markets.

The company’s advisory board includes Peter Dittus, former secretary general of the Bank for International Settlements, and Leon Marshall, former chief executive for Europe at Galaxy Digital. M1X Global said they would support work related to regulatory positioning, capital treatment and institutional market development.
