Korea Expressway Corp. is stepping up efforts to expand its overseas road infrastructure business by strengthening cooperation with transport authorities in Bangladesh and Türkiye.

The state-run road operator said Wednesday that it held a series of high-level meetings with officials from both countries on the sidelines of the 2026 Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC), which is being held at Conrad Seoul from Sept. 15.

In Bangladesh, Korea Expressway Corp. discussed extending an operations and maintenance (O&M) contract that is scheduled to expire in 2027.

The company met with Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Bangladesh’s minister of road transport and bridges, to review the status of ongoing projects and explore ways to extend the O&M agreement.

Korea Expressway Corp. entered the Bangladeshi market in 2014 through its participation in construction supervision for the Padma Bridge. It currently provides O&M services for the Padma Bridge and the N8 national highway.

In Türkiye, the company focused on developing follow-up projects based on its growing track record in the local market.

During a meeting with Ahmet Gülşen, director general of the Turkish General Directorate of Highways, the two sides discussed cooperation on additional infrastructure projects.

Korea Expressway Corp. won the Nakkaş-Başakşehir investment project in 2024 and subsequently secured the Kınalı-Malkara O&M project and the Malkara-Çanakkale major maintenance project this year.

Building on these projects, the company and Turkish authorities also explored cooperation on the proposed İzmir Northeast Ring Road investment project.

The company plans to use the GICC as an opportunity to strengthen ties with overseas government agencies and infrastructure organizations while identifying new business opportunities.

On Sept. 17, representatives from participating countries will visit Korea Expressway Corp.’s traffic control center, where the company will showcase its intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and advanced traffic management technologies.

Launched in 2013, the GICC is an international infrastructure cooperation event designed to promote collaboration between Korean companies and overseas governments and institutions. This year’s conference is bringing together about 500 infrastructure-related officials and industry representatives, including ministers and vice ministers from more than 30 countries.

“We were able to further strengthen our cooperation with major overseas institutions through our participation in the GICC,” Korea Expressway Corp. President Yoo Jeong-hun said. “We will continue expanding our international cooperation network and make greater efforts to accelerate the company’s expansion into overseas markets.”
