Hanwha Financial Group, comprising Hanwha Life Insurance, Hanwha General Insurance, Hanwha Investment & Securities, and Hanwha Asset Management, participated in the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23 (local time), engaging with global partners to explore ways to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean financial services.
Building on the future finance strategy it presented at Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW) last month—combining the trust of traditional finance with the openness of digital finance—Hanwha Financial further expanded and refined this vision on the global stage at the Davos Forum.
At the forum, Kim Dong-won, Chief Global Officer (CGO) and CEO of Hanwha Life Insurance, held discussions with global leaders including Sir John Chipman, Chairman of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Through these exchanges, Hanwha Financial reviewed potential areas for global cooperation and new business opportunities in response to the rapidly evolving financial landscape.
Hanwha Asset Management also strengthened its global investment cooperation by meeting with major institutional investors and asset managers, including the CEO of Denmark’s PKA pension fund, as well as executives from Thoma Bravo and HPS.
On January 21, Hanwha Financial discussed a range of collaboration opportunities with global digital finance and investment partners. Hanwha Life Insurance signed a memorandum of understanding with Liberty City Ventures (LCV) at the Davos Forum to cooperate on joint investments in innovative global fintech companies and the expansion of the digital finance ecosystem. Based in New York, LCV is a global venture capital firm specializing in Web3 and fintech, with more than USD 2 billion in assets under management.
Lee Byung-seo, Head of Investments at Hanwha Life Insurance, said the partnership with LCV is meaningful given the firm’s deep understanding of both digital finance and traditional financial markets. He added that Hanwha Life will continue to work closely with global partners to proactively respond to changes in the future financial environment.
On the same day, Hanwha Investment & Securities signed an MoU with Xangle to pursue cooperation in blockchain-based digital asset data and research. Through this partnership, the two companies aim to enhance investment information services and expand their global business presence.
Xangle is a digital asset information infrastructure provider offering market data, disclosures, research, and on-chain analytics through its blockchain-based data platform and global research network. The company connects financial institutions with the Web3 ecosystem and operates the digital asset information platform “Xangle Portal.”
Jang Byung-ho, CEO of Hanwha Investment & Securities, said the Davos Forum provided valuable insight into global discussions on digital finance, adding that the company will continue to closely monitor these trends and identify new investment and financial business opportunities.
Hanwha Financial also hosted a special dialogue session at the Hanwha Office Lounge during the forum, aligned with the WEF’s 2026 theme, “A Spirit of Dialogue.” The session focused on the changes and key execution challenges brought about by financial innovation.
Panelists included Emil Woods, co-founder of Liberty City Ventures; Murtaza Akbar, managing partner at LCV; and Kim Jun-woo, co-CEO of Xangle. Kim Dong-won and other executives from Hanwha Financial, along with global leaders in digital finance, attended the session.
Emil Woods emphasized that it is not technology itself but the structure of trust that ultimately reshapes finance. Kim Jun-woo noted that the core of digital finance lies not in decentralization but in efficiency, predicting that financial infrastructure enabling real-time connectivity of capital, data, and transactions will become increasingly important.
