Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia back AI-driven operations software for field service businesses
Probook founders Ben Cervantez, George Eliadis and Lewis Zhang

Probook announced on June 23 that it has raised $40 million in funding as investors expand their focus from AI-powered customer engagement to operational decision-making in traditional industries.

The funding consists of a $34 million Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and a $6 million Seed round led by Sequoia Capital. Sequoia also participated in the Series A financing.

The New York-based company develops software for businesses including HVAC contractors, plumbers, electricians, and maintenance providers. Its platform is designed to automate dispatch, scheduling, customer communications, and job coordination.

The investment highlights a broader shift in enterprise AI. While much of the recent AI boom has centered on chatbots, voice assistants, and marketing tools, investors are increasingly targeting software that manages operational workflows where efficiency gains can directly affect revenue and profitability.

Dispatch Becomes a Competitive Advantage

In field-service businesses, dispatch functions as the operational hub that determines how technicians, jobs, and customer requests are coordinated.

Inefficient scheduling can lead to longer response times, lower technician utilization, and higher administrative costs. As service organizations expand across multiple locations, managing those workflows becomes increasingly complex.

Probook's platform combines customer intake, scheduling, messaging, and dispatch management into a single system designed to reduce manual coordination. The company argues that operational data becomes more valuable when these functions are connected rather than managed through separate software tools.

The company currently serves customers ranging from independently owned contractors to private-equity-backed service platforms. Customers include TurnPoint Services, Master Trades Group, Del-Air, Peterman Brothers, and Sila Services.

Vertical AI Moves Into Traditional Industries

The funding reflects growing investor interest in vertical AI—industry-specific software built around the operational requirements of particular sectors.

Unlike general-purpose AI applications, vertical AI platforms are designed to address specialized workflows and decision-making processes. Home services represent a large but historically under-digitized market where many companies still rely on fragmented systems and labor-intensive administrative processes.

Several customers reported operational improvements after deploying the platform. Peterman Brothers said it centralized dispatch operations across 11 markets and roughly 200 technicians without increasing overhead. Summers Plumbing, Heating & Cooling reported booking more than 2,500 jobs during its first month on the system, while Del-Air expanded the software across multiple business functions.

The company said some customers have achieved technician-to-dispatcher ratios approaching 100-to-1 through greater automation, although outcomes vary depending on company size and operating structure.

AI Expands Beyond Customer Engagement

Probook plans to use the new capital to expand engineering, customer success, and commercial operations.

The investment comes as AI adoption spreads into sectors such as construction, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and field services. In many cases, the objective is not workforce replacement but reducing administrative workloads and improving resource allocation.

For investors, the next phase of AI may depend less on customer-facing applications and more on software that coordinates how work is scheduled, assigned, and executed.

The Probook funding suggests that operational AI—particularly in industries that have historically been slow to digitize—is emerging as one of the next major areas of enterprise software investment.
