Kia has embarked on constructing a futuristic Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) production hub capable of manufacturing 250,000 units annually, through its dedicated ‘Hwasung EVO Plant.’
On November 14, Kia hosted a completion ceremony for ‘EVO Plant East’ and a groundbreaking ceremony for ‘EVO Plant West’ at Autoland in Hwasung, Gyeonggi Province. The event was attended by key government and regional officials, including Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-gwan, and Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon, alongside Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Kia President Song Ho-sung.
For this ambitious project, Kia has secured approximately 300,375 square meters—equivalent to 42 football fields—and plans to invest a total of 4 trillion won in facility development and R&D. The Hwasung EVO Plant, encompassing both East and West factories and a conversion center, is set to become a pivotal production hub for PBVs, serving both domestic and international markets.
In his congratulatory speech, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok emphasized, “We will usher in a new era of innovation in future mobility alongside new technologies such as electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and AI.”
Kia President Song Ho-sung stated, “Positioning PBVs as a core future business, we plan to produce 2.63 million units, or 58% of our 4.51 million global electric vehicles from 2026 to 2030, domestically.” He further expressed the commitment to contribute to strengthening the national industrial competitiveness.
