Samsung C&T’s construction division has unveiled “Next Material,” a next-generation finishing solution powered by digital vision technology, as part of its efforts to enhance competitiveness in the residential market.

The launch follows the company’s earlier development of the “Next Home” testbed, a future-oriented housing model. With Next Material, Samsung C&T is accelerating its technological advancement by introducing a new category of finishing materials designed for real residential applications. The core of the innovation lies in high-resolution digital printing, which precisely replicates the color and texture of natural materials such as wood and marble in both visual and tactile form.

The development was carried out in collaboration with Schattdecor, a German specialist in surface materials. Together, the companies created a “synchronized design” technology that overcomes the limitations of conventional digital printing, enhancing both texture realism and durability. A patent application for the technology has already been filed.

Next Material combines the practicality of engineered wood flooring with the premium feel of natural hardwood. While conventional products have been limited by roll printing at around 300 dpi, resulting in repetitive patterns and restricted color expression, the new technology increases resolution to approximately 1,200 dpi. This allows for near-limitless variation in color and pattern, enabling highly realistic representations of natural wood through detailed analysis and replication.

The material also reduces reliance on natural resources and imports while maintaining high-quality finishes, improving cost competitiveness. Enhanced durability and stain resistance further ensure minimal discoloration and wear over long-term use.

The technology aligns with the core concepts of Samsung C&T’s Next Home initiative, which emphasizes customizable design and long-life housing. Next Material will be first applied to “Raemian Elavine,” a redevelopment project in Seoul’s Banghwa 6 district, with plans to expand its use across various finishing applications, including flooring, bathrooms, furniture, and walls.

A company official said Next Material goes beyond a simple new material, positioning itself as a platform technology that expands customer experience, adding that Samsung C&T aims to set new standards for residential spaces through differentiated finishing solutions.
