Bispecific antibody demonstrates strong tumor selectivity, favorable safety profile, and broad potential across HER2-positive solid tumors as clinical development advances

Celltrion has unveiled new preclinical data for its next-generation immuno-oncology candidate CT-P72/ABP-102, reinforcing the company's ambitions to expand its presence in the global solid tumor treatment market.

The company announced on June 12 that it presented research findings on CT-P72/ABP-102 at the World Bispecific & T-Cell Engager Summit South Korea 2026 held in Seoul. The investigational therapy is a bispecific antibody designed to simultaneously target HER2-expressing cancer cells and T cells, enabling the immune system to more effectively identify and destroy tumors.

According to the data presented, CT-P72/ABP-102 demonstrated potent cancer cell-killing activity against tumors with high HER2 expression while showing relatively limited activity in normal cells with low HER2 expression. Researchers said the results highlight the therapy's strong target selectivity, a key factor in maximizing efficacy while minimizing potential side effects.

The candidate also showed a favorable safety profile in non-human primate toxicology and pharmacokinetic studies, maintaining good tolerability even at higher dose levels. In addition, the therapy achieved significant tumor suppression in gastric cancer models that had developed resistance to existing HER2-targeted treatments, underscoring its potential as a next-generation treatment option.

Celltrion reported meaningful anti-tumor activity across multiple HER2-positive solid tumors, including gastric cancer, breast cancer, bladder cancer, and biliary tract cancer. The findings suggest that the therapy could support a broad clinical development strategy spanning multiple cancer indications rather than a single tumor type.

Another notable outcome came from studies using organoid-based microphysiological systems (MPS) derived from patient tumor tissues. The research demonstrated enhanced immune-cell infiltration and tumor reduction in environments designed to closely replicate human physiological conditions, further supporting the therapy's clinical potential.

Interest in bispecific antibodies and T-cell engager therapies has grown rapidly across the global oncology industry as pharmaceutical companies seek more effective approaches to treating difficult-to-target cancers. Industry observers believe that positive clinical outcomes could significantly enhance the value of Celltrion's innovative drug pipeline.

Analysts also note that therapies capable of overcoming resistance to existing HER2-targeted treatments while improving safety profiles could emerge as major commercial opportunities within the rapidly expanding oncology market.

CT-P72/ABP-102 has already received Investigational New Drug (IND) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is currently undergoing patient enrollment for its Phase 1 clinical trial. Celltrion plans to apply for Fast Track designation later this year to accelerate development timelines and support a faster path toward global commercialization.
