Chong Kun Dang said its environmental disinfectant wipes, “Bio Spike Guard,” have demonstrated sustained antimicrobial effects in real-world hospital settings, with the findings published in the international journal Infection & Chemotherapy.
The study was conducted across five major university hospitals in South Korea, including Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Asan Medical Center, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Konkuk University Medical Center, and Gachon University Gil Medical Center. Researchers evaluated the product’s performance in high-contact areas under real clinical conditions.
Approximately 160 sites were examined, including dry zones such as bed rails and nurse stations, as well as wet zones like sinks and toilet covers. The results showed that Bio Spike Guard maintained significant microbial reduction at 1, 6, and 24 hours after application.
In contrast, conventional disinfection methods showed limited persistence, with microbial levels rebounding over time. The product also demonstrated strong performance in high-risk wet environments, where contamination control is more challenging.
Bio Spike Guard combines didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) for immediate disinfection with organosilane (Si-QAC), which forms a protective layer on surfaces to prolong antimicrobial activity.
Researchers noted that sustained disinfection is critical in healthcare environments, where preventing hospital-acquired infections requires more than one-time cleaning. The study suggests that long-lasting disinfectants could provide an effective alternative for infection control.
Chong Kun Dang said the findings support the product’s potential use in healthcare settings and that the company plans to expand its infection control solutions based on scientific evidence.
