KT Corporation announced that it has completed performance validation of a 7GHz ultra-high-density multi-antenna technology jointly developed with Samsung Electronics.

The research was conducted to advance next-generation wireless communication systems and secure core technologies required for ultra-high-speed, hyper-connected services in the 6G era.

The ultra-high-density multi-antenna technology integrates a large number of antennas into a single system to maximize signal efficiency and increase data processing capacity. The verification was carried out in the 7GHz band, considered a key candidate frequency range for 6G.

According to KT, the trial demonstrated significantly improved antenna integration compared to existing 5G equipment. When compared with current 5G 64TRx base station systems, the new setup achieved approximately four times higher antenna density, enabling more antennas and beamforming configurations within the same physical space. The achievement addresses previous performance limitations in high-frequency bands.

In high-capacity transmission tests, the system recorded a download speed of 3.0Gbps. The base station simultaneously transmitted eight data streams to a device, delivering what the companies described as industry-leading throughput. The validation was conducted using a 6G test terminal provided by Keysight Technologies’ communications solutions group.

KT and Samsung expect the technology to play a key role in enabling high-bandwidth, low-latency services required for immersive XR, metaverse and hologram-based applications, as well as large-scale AI-driven services in future 6G environments.

The two companies plan to expand their collaboration to include uplink coverage enhancement, optimization of wireless systems in new frequency bands, AI-RAN research and user-centric network optimization technologies.

Jung Jin-guk, executive vice president and head of Samsung Research’s Next-Generation Communications Research Center, said the joint effort confirmed the potential for significant transmission speed improvements in next-generation networks. He added that Samsung will continue leading the development of future network technologies for the 6G era.

Kailash Narayanan, president of Keysight’s Communications Solutions Group, said the collaboration accelerated early 6G adoption through validation in new frequency bands and real-world conditions, adding that the company will support commercialization of AI-based next-generation wireless communications.

Lee Jong-sik, executive vice president and head of KT’s Future Network Research Institute, said the 7GHz verification demonstrates stable and high-capacity performance in ultra-high-frequency bands, underscoring its importance as a foundation technology for 6G commercialization.
