In Seoul, a growing number of consumers are looking for more than a hotel stay. They want exercise, relaxation, dining, and wellness experiences combined into a single lifestyle destination — a trend increasingly described in Korea as “sportscation,” a blend of sports and vacation.

One of the clearest examples of that shift is emerging at Walkerhill Hotels & Resorts, where the company’s Walkerhill Golf Club is gaining attention as a premium urban leisure space rather than a conventional indoor driving range.

Marking its first anniversary this year, the golf club has attracted nearly 100,000 cumulative visitors since opening in June last year, according to industry sources. The facility combines golf practice, wellness programs, dining, and hotel amenities into a single customer experience — reflecting broader changes in how urban consumers approach leisure and self-care.

On a weekday afternoon, the atmosphere inside the club felt closer to a luxury lifestyle lounge than a traditional golf practice facility. Office workers stopped by before or after work to practice their swings, while others relaxed in lounge areas overlooking the Han River.

The club’s technology-driven training system stands out as one of its key attractions. Every hitting bay is equipped with “Toptracer,” a global golf analytics platform that provides real-time shot tracking data, including ball trajectory, launch angle, and carry distance. The system allows players to analyze swings with precision rather than relying solely on feel or repetition.

Visitors say the data-based approach has become part of golf’s broader transformation into a more analytical sport.

“People no longer just hit balls aimlessly,” one industry observer said. “Golf consumers increasingly want measurable feedback and personalized improvement tools.”

Another signature feature is the club’s “Short Game Complex,” inspired by the iconic 12th hole at Augusta National Golf Club, home of the PGA Masters Tournament. The area recreates realistic putting, bunker, and approach-shot conditions rarely found in typical indoor practice facilities.

Many visitors were seen focusing on short-range approach practice and bunker shots, highlighting growing demand for practical training environments that simulate actual on-course conditions.

But perhaps the biggest differentiator is the setting itself. The open-air structure offers panoramic views of the Han River and Achasan Mountain, creating a more relaxed atmosphere than conventional indoor golf ranges. Some VIP bays are designed as private spaces, attracting customers seeking business meetings or small-group golf gatherings in a more exclusive environment.

Walkerhill has also integrated the golf facility with its broader wellness ecosystem. Guests can naturally move from golf sessions to hotel restaurants, wellness programs, fitness facilities, outdoor pool areas, or the company’s tennis complex, “Tenez Park.”

Industry analysts say the concept reflects changing consumer habits accelerated by hybrid work culture and flexible schedules. Data from the facility shows that 64% of visitors use the club on weekdays, with peak demand concentrated between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. — a pattern tied to consumers seeking shorter, more efficient leisure activities after work.

The customer base is also becoming more diverse. Female visitors now account for roughly 40% of users, while younger customers in their 20s and 30s continue to increase alongside traditional middle-aged golf enthusiasts.

Industry officials say golf is increasingly evolving beyond sport into a broader lifestyle category that combines wellness, networking, self-management, and premium leisure experiences.

“Consumers today are looking for integrated experiences that combine health, relaxation, hobbies, and hospitality,” a hotel industry official said. “Walkerhill Golf Club has become one of the leading examples of Seoul’s growing urban wellness and lifestyle trend.”
