Prof. Toshiro Arai: “Chronic inflammation and mitochondrial care are key to disease management”
Greycoat Research, a feline healthcare company, is strengthening its position as a research-driven company by enhancing its research and development capabilities in collaboration with leading clinical experts in Japan.
The company announced on April 10 that it has signed an advisory partnership agreement with Kobayashi Animal Hospital in Japan to establish a clinical and research advisory framework for feline chronic kidney disease (CKD).
More than a simple distribution partnership, the agreement marks a strategic move to reinforce Greycoat Research’s positioning as a research-driven company and further advance its global clinical network. Alongside its international business expansion, the company has continued to increase investment in R&D to translate clinical data into research and academic validation using resources secured through growth initiatives.
These investments are strategically aimed at bridging clinical data, research development, and academic publication. The company is accelerating its transformation from a product-focused business into a technology-based company that integrates clinical data with structured research.
The partnership brings together prominent Japanese experts, including veterinarian Motoo Kobayashi, who has more than 40 years of clinical experience, and Toshiro Arai, Professor Emeritus at Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University and a leading authority in lipid metabolism.
Dr. Kobayashi has advocated a wellness-centered care paradigm that emphasizes preventive management before pets become ill, highlighting the importance of dietary and nutritional care as part of a proactive health management system. He is also planning to establish a Wellness Center in September to support early disease detection and sustainable long-term care.
Professor Arai, who joins the initiative as an advisor, commented, “Feline renal failure is a representative disease that worsens as chronic inflammation accumulates, often associated with obesity and other underlying factors. Rather than relying on short-term treatment, continuous management through diet and overall lifestyle is essential for long-term disease control. In particular, a scientific approach focused on the relationship between chronic inflammation and the maintenance of mitochondrial function will become an important element in disease management going forward.”
Greycoat Research said it is advancing its research and disease management framework based on more than 30,000 real-world clinical application cases, reflecting metabolic conditions at different stages of disease progression. In particular, the company plans to further enhance its capabilities in genetic-based analysis, stage-specific integrated nutritional design, and mitochondrial function support strategies, and connect these efforts to academic papers and scientific presentations in order to strengthen credibility in global markets.
Moving beyond a conventional single-product approach, the company said it is expanding toward a precision management solution tailored to disease stage and individual metabolic condition.
In parallel, Greycoat Research is also enhancing its research system in collaboration with external specialized institutions, including advancement of research frameworks involving AIM gene analysis. Through these efforts, the company aims to expand the potential link between clinical data and research-based disease management models.
A Greycoat Research spokesperson said, “Feline CKD is an area that requires long-term metabolic management. This partnership will serve as an important milestone in accelerating our transformation into a research-driven company that connects clinical data, research design, and academic development. By integrating technologies such as genetic analysis, we aim to build a differentiated solution that can make a meaningful impact on disease progression.”
Meanwhile, Greycoat Research is continuing to strengthen its global footprint by expanding its clinical collaboration network from Turkey to Japan. The company also plans to showcase its technologies to the global market at major international exhibitions, including SuperZoo 2026 in the United States and Interpets 2027 in Japan, as it accelerates the expansion of its B2B business model.
