Celltrion is accelerating its transition into an innovative drug developer as its next-generation oncology pipeline moves decisively into clinical stages. With multiple antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) candidates now undergoing patient dosing, the company is positioning itself beyond its traditional biosimilar-focused business.

According to industry sources on March 23, Celltrion’s ADC candidates CT-P70, CT-P71, and CT-P73 are all currently in Phase 1 clinical trials, with patient dosing underway. Each program entered the clinical phase after receiving Investigational New Drug (IND) approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

ADCs are considered a promising next-generation cancer therapy, combining antibodies with cytotoxic drugs to selectively target cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Having confirmed mechanism of action and safety in preclinical studies, Celltrion is now focusing on evaluating dose-dependent safety and pharmacological responses in human trials.

The company is also expanding its pipeline. Another candidate, CT-P72, based on a multi-antibody platform, has entered the patient recruitment stage ahead of clinical trials, with first dosing expected in the near future. This would bring four major oncology candidates into human testing, marking a significant milestone in Celltrion’s drug development efforts.

Celltrion’s oncology pipeline targets a broad range of solid tumors, including lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers. The company is focusing on areas with high unmet medical needs, where existing treatment options remain limited. Industry observers see this as a strategic approach aimed at maximizing both clinical and commercial impact.

Regulatory strategies are also being employed to accelerate development timelines. Key candidates are being reviewed under the FDA’s Fast Track designation, which is designed to facilitate the development of therapies for serious conditions. The program allows for rolling submissions of data, potentially shortening the overall review process. Some candidates have already received Fast Track status, while additional applications are planned.

Market analysts view the clinical progress as a potential turning point for Celltrion’s business structure. The company, long known for its biosimilars, could see a revaluation of its market position if it demonstrates meaningful results in innovative drug development.

Looking ahead, Celltrion plans to sequentially secure interim data from its Phase 1 trials to build evidence on safety and efficacy, paving the way for advancement into later-stage clinical trials. Industry experts note that early clinical data will be a critical indicator of both technological capability and commercialization potential.

Celltrion said its major pipelines have now entered a full clinical trajectory and that it will continue to validate its next-generation drug development capabilities step by step, while strengthening long-term growth through synergy with its existing business.
