LG Innotek announced on November 6th that its self-developed vehicle-mounted “Ultra-Thin Pixel Lighting Module” has been awarded the Innovation Award at CES 2026, the world’s largest consumer electronics trade show.

Building on its previous success at CES 2025, where it received the Innovation Award for the ‘NexSlide A+’ front vehicle lighting technology that applied surface light sources for the first time, LG Innotek has now secured this honor for the second consecutive year in the vehicle lighting solution category, once again affirming its global leading position in automotive lighting technology.

The newly unveiled “Ultra-Thin Pixel Lighting Module” features significantly reduced thickness, size, and weight. Unlike conventional modules that used plastic lenses and reflective optical components, which made them bulky and heavy, LG Innotek developed the industry’s first white silicon-based reflective optical component to overcome these challenges.

Designed to maximize light reflection efficiency with a unique structure, this component enables uniform and bright illumination without requiring additional lenses. As a result, the module thickness has been reduced by 71% to just 3mm, with a substantial weight reduction and a 30% increase in optical efficiency.

Furthermore, leveraging the flexibility of silicon material, the module is designed to be bendable, allowing it to be installed on curved surfaces or in areas such as grilles and bumpers where traditional lighting modules could not be easily placed. This innovation enhances vehicle design flexibility and contributes to weight reduction, ultimately improving fuel efficiency.

An LG Innotek spokesperson explained, “The silicon material reduces shattered fragments in case of collision, lowering pedestrian injury risks,” adding, “This is a next-generation lighting solution that combines innovative design, safety, and efficiency.”

The new module also reduces pixel size to a quarter of existing modules, greatly enhancing lighting resolution and visibility. Additionally, it enables Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, allowing the display of various external information such as texts, images, or animations, which can be used for emergency alerts or personalized emojis, facilitating vehicle communication.

LG Innotek plans to commence mass production targeted for the second half of 2027 and is actively promoting this technology to global automakers.

CEO Moon Hyeok-su stated, “Winning the CES 2026 Innovation Award reaffirms LG Innotek’s competitive edge in global vehicle lighting technology,” and added, “We will continue to develop differentiated products that offer higher customer value and expand our market from North America to Europe and Japan.”

Additionally, at CES 2026 in January next year, LG Innotek will showcase not only the “Ultra-Thin Pixel Lighting Module” but also next-generation vehicle lighting products and sensing/communication components for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), demonstrating its broad innovation capabilities.
