First pre-launch product showcase at global media event highlights push into overseas markets
LG Uplus is stepping up efforts to expand its home media business overseas, showcasing a new lineup of connected devices and entertainment solutions at one of the global broadcasting industry's major events.
The Korean telecom operator participated in IBC 2026, held from Sept. 11 to 14 at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre in the Netherlands, where it introduced several home media products developed through its partnerships with technology and device companies.
IBC is an international exhibition covering broadcasting, media, entertainment and related technologies. This year's event placed a strong focus on artificial intelligence, over-the-top (OTT) services, cloud-based media solutions and connected home technologies, reflecting the industry's shift toward more personalized and device-independent content consumption.
LG Uplus used booths operated by Amlogic, Gaon Group and Marsis to demonstrate an ultra-compact IPTV set-top box, a portable monitor and a camera-based golf putting simulator.
The ultra-compact set-top box drew particular attention for its small footprint. Designed to deliver IPTV functionality in a significantly smaller form factor, the device highlights LG Uplus' focus on improving both hardware efficiency and the overall user experience around the television.
The portable monitor was presented as an alternative way to consume media beyond conventional fixed screens. By allowing users to move the display between different areas and environments, the device reflects growing demand for more flexible and mobile entertainment experiences.
Visitors were also able to test the golf putting simulator themselves. Using camera-based recognition technology, the system tracks putting movements and provides an interactive gaming experience, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the technology rather than simply view a product demonstration.
The appearance of pre-launch products at IBC is particularly notable for LG Uplus. While the company has previously demonstrated technologies developed jointly with partners at international exhibitions, this marks the first time it has presented products that had not yet been officially launched.
Industry observers say the move signals a broader shift in LG Uplus' home media strategy. Rather than focusing solely on domestic IPTV services, the company appears to be exploring opportunities across connected devices, digital entertainment and home media platforms.
The strategy also comes as global telecom operators increasingly seek new growth engines beyond traditional connectivity services. IPTV, OTT, smart home solutions and connected devices are becoming increasingly interconnected, creating opportunities for operators to develop new services and partnerships around the home.
From this perspective, the compact IPTV set-top box could provide LG Uplus with an additional avenue for cooperation with overseas telecom operators looking to enhance their IPTV offerings. Portable displays and interactive entertainment devices could likewise be leveraged as complementary solutions as consumers adopt more flexible ways of accessing digital content.
During IBC 2026, LG Uplus also held business meetings with telecom operators, broadcasters and equipment manufacturers from Europe, Asia and Latin America. The company used the event to discuss potential partnerships and assess opportunities to introduce its technologies and services to international markets.
The company plans to continue using international exhibitions as a platform for identifying emerging trends and developing new business opportunities in areas including AI, OTT, home connectivity and media platforms.
“IBC 2026 was meaningful because it allowed us to introduce globally the products and new device experiences we have developed based on our technology and customer experience accumulated through our IPTV business in Korea,” said Park Chan-seung, senior vice president and head of LG Uplus' Home Business Group. “We will continue working with our partners to strengthen our next-generation home media capabilities and identify new opportunities for collaboration with global operators.”
