KB Kookmin Bank has expanded its cross-border QR payment service, “KB Star Banking Overseas Payment Service,” to cover all of Indonesia, strengthening its global digital payment capabilities.
The bank announced on April 1 that the service is now available nationwide in Indonesia, allowing users to make payments through QR codes using the KB Star Banking app. The cross-border QR payment system connects domestic financial institutions with overseas payment networks, enabling users to pay in foreign countries using their local financial apps.
With the latest expansion, customers can make QR payments at more than 32 million merchants across Indonesia, including major destinations such as Bali and Jakarta. The service allows users to scan QR codes directly within the app, reducing risks associated with card cloning and personal data exposure.
KB Kookmin Bank said it is the first in Korea to directly integrate with Indonesia’s national QR payment network, QRIS, based on infrastructure provided by the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute. This integration enables payments in local currency without double currency conversion, helping reduce transaction fees and improve user convenience.
The KB Star Banking Overseas Payment Service is currently available in 12 countries and regions, including Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Hawaii. The bank plans to further expand its global payment network to enhance accessibility and provide seamless financial services for customers traveling abroad.
A bank official said the expansion aims to allow customers to use familiar payment methods overseas while improving convenience and accessibility, adding that the bank will continue to strengthen its global payment infrastructure to better integrate financial services into everyday life.
